Mayweather vs. Canelo Results: Breaking Down Money's Epic Win
For the 45th consecutive time, Floyd "Money" Mayweather stepped out of the ring with a victory.
Mayweather beat Saul "Canelo" Alvarez by a majority decision of 114-114, 116-112, 117-111.
Canelo was supposed to have the best chance of finally unseating Money, but it was not so. As it always is, Mayweather won not with power, but with skill and defense.

Showtime Sports broke down the final stats:
This was a classic Money fight. He toyed with Canelo, dodging nearly every punch and making the Mexican savior look like an amateur. Canelo needed to land a big punch to win, but Mayweather wasn't having any of it.
Take a look at this image of Canelo flailing at Money:
This was emblematic of the fight. Mayweather's best trait is dodging punches. In fact, he may be the best ever at it. This was the most important aspect of Money's win. Canelo is a power puncher and, despite the fact that he looked totally lost in this fight, he's one of the best. But Mayweather's strategy was to always let Canelo swing and tire. That's what happened. As Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated noted:
It really was a boxing clinic, and it was disappointing for those seeking an epic upset. Alvarez is a fine boxer, but it was clear that he's not in Mayweather's league. There is no boxer out there that can match Mayweather's skill. Mayweather won with guile and savvy, not with pure power. He's a throwback, relying on his incredible hand speed, his famous shoulder roll and, despite being 36 years old, fine foot speed.
By simply outsmarting him, Money made Alvarez look silly. His defensive techniques made it impossible for Canelo to land a solid blow. Canelo only landed 22 percent of his punches, as per Showtime Sports. That's consistent with most of Mayweather's opponents, who average contact 17 percent of the time, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
Even though Alvarez was supposed to be "The One", he really was just another one. Just another promising boxer who was humbled by Mayweather, just another contender brushed to the side by Money's greatness. There was absolutely nothing surprising about this fight.
Mayweather is undoubtedly the best boxer of the last decade. He used his incredible skill, defensive techniques and impressive speed to win. It was a classic performance.
Money is at the point of his career where may never lose. As Myron Medcalf of ESPN pointed out:
At this point, it looks as if no one ever will.
