Top Storyline: The Development of Brandon Allen
Head coach Bret Bielema and Arkansas could not have hoped for a better starting debut from sophomore Brandon Allen against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Allen, who took over as starter this year after Tyler Wilson departed for the NFL, was impressive against the Ragin' Cajuns, combining with running backs Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins to boost the Razorbacks to victory.
Allen found six different players in Week 1, showing that he could spread the ball around and do damage without a star like last season's leading receiver, Cobi Hamilton.
The Fayetteville native was ranked as the No. 7 pro-style quarterback in the 2011 recruiting class by 247Sports.com. We'll see what the 20-year-old has in store for us moving forward.
Prediction: Arkansas 40, Samford 13
Brandon Allen's performance against Louisiana-Lafayette in Week 1 was very encouraging, whether Bielema wants to say so or not.
Now, Allen—as well as his talented backfield—faces an FCS opponent in Samford that lost to Kentucky last year 34-3. FBS opponents have not been kind to the Bulldogs.
I believe Bielema has Arkansas headed in the right direction. I also believe Samford is completely outclassed against the Razorbacks. A victory over FCS bottom feeder Georgia State isn't going to change my mind.
