Chelsea Transfer News: Last-Minute Signings Blues Are Chasing
Chelsea are almost always a big spender during transfer windows and new manager Jose Mourinho will certainly want to make a bold statement ahead of the 2013-2014 Premier League campaign for the Blues.
But who will "The Special One" target as the London side run out of time to complete deals this summer? Despite his claims at a recent press conference as quoted by The Telegraph that the transfer window "is open too long," his club are still in the news chasing a few more players.
In what would be an absolutely massive deal that would shake the landscape of the Premier League, Chelsea are expected to renew negotiations with Manchester United for the services of Wayne Rooney.
According to the Guardian out of England, Chelsea are expected to continue to increase their bid for the striker despite being rejected twice already.
The England international has long been a rival for the Stamford Bridge side, but his presence would bring a consistent goal scoring presence that Fernando Torres has yet to provide.
Rooney did see the field for David Moyes' United over the weekend, but did so as a substitute.
He is clearly second choice in Manchester, and a move to Chelsea makes sense for both sides of the equation.
Samuel Eto'o
According to the same report mentioned above from the Guardian, the Blues are also chasing the services of world-class striker Samuel Eto'o.
The Anzhi Makhachkala striker is available for a much lower price than Rooney because his club is trying to cut costs, according to ESPN UK.
He previously played under Mourinho at Inter in Italy and was a huge success, but the now 32-year-old striker might not have the same magic left in his boots.
But with Polish striking target Robert Lewandowski turning down the opportunity to move to Chelsea, according to the Mirror's David Raven, there might not be many other options left to bolster the attack for the London club.
Zakaria Bakkali
If Eto'o does prove to be too old of a target for Mourinho, he will likely set his sites on PSV youngster Zakaria Bakkali, according to the Express.
The 17-year-old winger currently plays in the Dutch Eredivisie and has made a name for himself at a young age, including a hat trick against NEC earlier this month. Here are video highlights of the attack-minded winger from Morocco.
He became the youngest hat trick scorer in Dutch top league history, according to Goal.com, and it's clear that his stock is on the rise. Chelsea would be wise to lock him up now and allow him to grow behind the fantastic attacking talent already at Stamford Bridge.
