Manchester United Transfers: Late Deals Fans Would Love to See Happen
The last thing fans of Manchester United want is for the club to panic-buy come the end of August.
It is no secret the club has had a disastrous transfer window so far as top targets have either shifted to other destinations or stubbornly remained stayed put.
But there is still time for boss David Moyes to make a couple of marquee signings to refresh the Red Devils' squad.
Here are five late deals fans would love to see happen. It is no coincidence all are midfielders.
Ilkay Gundogan
1 of 5Ilkay Gundogan is a hip, fashionable name that has risen in stature in the footballing world over the past few years.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder was imperious last season as the German side reached the final of the Champions League.
He is an energetic presence in the middle, and one capable of creating penetrative attacking sequences from a variety of positions.
Last month Jamie Sanderson of the Metro reported that "Everton powerhouse Maraoune Fellaini remains an option, but it’s now thought that Germany international Gundogan could move to Old Trafford instead."
There are few fans who would rather take Fellaini over Gundogan this summer.
Christian Eriksen
2 of 5There is a growing section of the Manchester United community who believe the club may be missing a trick in not targeting Christian Eriksen more heavily.
The Danish attacking midfielder is an elite young talent, and he would be available for far less than other options in the market.
Eriksen is a buzzing threat in the final third with exceptional technique and devastating creativity.
Earlier this year, Charles Perrin of the Express claimed United remain interested in acquiring his services.
It would take some shifting to get him on the pitch at the same time as fellow playmaker Shinji Kagawa, but the effort would be worthwhile.
Arturo Vidal
3 of 5It is a far-fetched hope that Juventus will part with one of their prized assets this summer, but who's to stop us hoping anyway?
The Chilean midfielder is exactly what the Red Devils' need alongside Michael Carrick in the middle of the park.
He is a bustling, busy player who makes a massive contribution both in attacking and defensive play.
In May, Football-Italia reported that "United have already been linked with Juventus stars Mirko Vucinic and Claudio Marchisio, but are now eyeing Arturo Vidal."
Here's a piece I wrote earlier this year on why he would make the perfect summer signing.
Geoffrey Kondogbia
4 of 5Of all the players on this list, Geoffrey Kondogbia is undoubtedly the least known.
The Frenchman's rise to prominence in the footballing world has been swift. The 20-year-old was a surprise starter for Sevilla last term.
He is a strong, tactically adroit player with a presence capable of running a midfield.
This week, the Mirror's David Anderson reported that "Kondogbia wants David Moyes to promise to play him before he considers joining Manchester United."
The man himself told reporters: "At the moment, I'm still a Sevilla player, although things can change. If I leave, then it will be to join a club where I'm given playing time."
Gareth Bale
5 of 5If you're going to dream, why not dream big?
It would make most Manchester United fans' year if the Red Devils were to secure the transfer of world-class attacking midfielder Gareth Bale.
The Welshman was superb for Tottenham Hotspur last season, almost single-handedly carrying the side with his transcendent performances at times.
Earlier this week, Ian Herbert of the usually reliable Independent reported that "Manchester United may offer competition to Real Madrid in the pursuit of Gareth Bale this week, with Tottenham Hotspur seemingly more receptive to the English champions, having become deeply frustrated by negotiations with the Spanish side."
With almost two weeks until the transfer window slams shut, United and Moyes had better get a move on.
