Joe StrangeJun 1, 2018

Day 3 of the World Athletics Championships in Moscow is underway, with a number of important finals set to take place on Monday.

The morning session has already seen the women's heptathlon continue with 100-meter hurdles and high jump contested, while the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles heats have also been completed.

Monday's afternoon session looks certain to produce eye-catching performances and drama in equal measure as a total of six different finals are held at Luzhniki Stadium.

Men's Pole Vault Final, 4 p.m. BST

In the first final of Day 3, the world's best male pole vaulters will see how high they can go as they compete for the gold medal.

The favourite to take the title is undoubtedly Renaud Lavillenie, who qualified atop of his group with a vault of 5.65 meters on his second attempt.

The Frenchman has been in excellent form this season, managing a personal best vault of 6.02 meters at an event in London just last month.

Lavillenie won Olympic gold at London in 2012 and will expect to come out on top against a field that isn't likely to match him at his best.

His brother, Valentin, will also compete in the final. With a personal best of 5.70 meters, he will do well to pose a threat to his sibling in the hunt for gold.

German trio Malte Mohr, Raphael Holzdeppe and Bjorn Otto should battle it out for silver and bronze.

Men's 110-Meter Hurdles Final, 6:30 p.m. BST

This evening the Luzhniki Stadium hosts arguably the most anticipated final of the day, the men's 110-meter hurdles.

The eight finalists have not yet been decided, with two semifinals set to take place around two-and-a-half hours prior to the showpiece event.

However, the favourites for the medals are clear, with the 2012 London Olympic champion Aries Merritt tipped to add the World Championship title to his collection.

The American won his heat in a time of 13.32 seconds but is capable of much better, having run 12.80 seconds in the past.

He will face tough competition from teammates David Oliver, Ryan Wilson and Jason Richardson, while local hero Sergey Shubenkov could be a threat if he can reproduce his qualification time of 13.16 seconds.

Women's 100-Meter Final, 6:50 p.m. BST

In the last final of the day, the world's fastest women sprint for gold and a place in the history books.

Like the men's 100-meter hurdles, the eight finalists will be decided via three semifinals that take place earlier in the day.

The USA's English Gardner was the only woman to run sub-11 seconds during the heats and looks like a good bet to make it through to the final and challenge for a medal.

The in-form Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria managed to run 11.03 seconds in her heat and looks in good shape heading into the latter stages of the competition.

However, the favourite remains Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who comfortably won her heat in a time of 11.15 seconds.

The Jamaican will be aiming to follow her teammate Usain Bolt and add the 100-meter title to the Olympic gold medal she earned in the same event at London 2012.
