PGA Championship 2013 Tee Times: Pairings and Predictions for Friday

Benjamin KleinJun 8, 2018

Friday will be an essential day at Oak Hill Country Club.

Golfers will be attempting to put together strong performances to stay near the top of the leaderboard at the PGA Championship, make their way back into the mix and avoid missing the cut. There were a ton of exciting moments in the first round, and we’re in store for what looks to be a fantastic second round as well.

Adam Scott and Jim Furyk will enter Friday with the lead, as each golfer shot five under in the opening round. David Hearn and Lee Westwood are both a shot back of the co-leaders, and six golfers are just two shots back. Several other players are within striking distance as well.

Anything is possible at Oak Hill, and the lead could change hands a number of times Friday. Who will be atop the leaderboard entering the weekend? Will it be Scott or Furyk? Where will Tiger be after his second round of action in Rochester?

Below are the tee times for each of the golfers on Friday, along with predictions for how the second round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill will play out.

Predictions for Friday

Tiger Gets Back in the Mix

Friday Tee Time: 1:45 p.m. ET (First Hole)

Tiger Woods isn’t under par entering the second round, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of the hunt just yet. This is Tiger we’re talking about here, not some random guy who is playing the PGA Championship for the first time. Woods started out hot Thursday but couldn’t stay sharp after making the turn.

Tiger made par on the first three holes on the back nine and then birdied two of the next three. After the first nine holes of his round, he was at two under par. It looked as if he was in store for a strong round, but the wheels started to come off once he started playing the front nine.

Woods only made par or worse on two of the nine holes on the front end of the course but still had several poor shots. He finished his day at one over, which isn’t great but isn't horrible either. Tiger recently tied a career best in the second round at the Bridgestone Invitational. Look for another big Day 2 from him on Friday.

Kuchar Enters Weekend With Lead

Friday Tee Time: 1:05 p.m. ET (First Hole)

Matt Kuchar was one of few golfers to turn in a clean scorecard Thursday. Starting on the back nine, Kuchar made par on the first eight holes. He birdied the 18th to make the turn at one under par. He was just as consistent on the front nine, as he didn't make worse than par on any of the final holes.

Kuchar played as well as anyone at Oak Hill on Thursday and is only a few shots off the lead entering Friday. He’s played well at the three majors this year, most notably in an eighth-place finish at the Masters. He still doesn’t have a major victory, though. Last year, he didn’t even make the cut at the PGA Championship.

The second round has statistically been Kuchar’s worst at the three majors this season, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his struggles will continue. He’s in a good position to take over the lead Friday if he can continue to play like he did in the opening round. Expect to see his name atop the leaderboard entering the weekend.

Garrigus Stays Near the Top

Friday Tee Time: 12:35 p.m. ET (First Hole)

One of the biggest surprises from Thursday was Robert Garrigus, who was in the group with the fourth-earliest tee time. He got off to a fantastic start, birdieing three of the first four holes on the back nine. Garrigus made par on the next four holes but struggled on No. 18 to end his chances of a perfect scorecard.

Making the turn at two under par wasn’t anything to scoff at, though, and his success continued early on. Garrigus stepped into the tee box on No. 5 at four under for the round, but he then got erratic. He made double bogey on the sixth, birdie on the seventh, bogey on the eighth and birdie on the ninth.

It was quite the final four holes for the American, who ended his opening round from Oak Hill at three under par. While he had some hiccups on the front nine Thursday, expect another good round for Garrigus on Friday. He’ll make the cut at the PGA Championship for the third straight year and should be among the leaders.
