Arsenal Transfer News: Club Should Remain Aggressive in Luis Suarez Saga
Arsenal have a chance to change the entire Premier League by acquiring Luis Suarez, but they must do what is necessary to complete a deal.
Arsene Wenger previously made a £40,000,001 bid for the forward in order to trigger a release clause, although it was still rejected by Brendan Rodgers, according to BBC Sport.
John Cross of Mirror Football reports that this has led Suarez to try to force a move to Arsenal. He ended his preseason when he claimed to have a "foot injury" and he is ready to start legal action to resolve the dispute.
Meanwhile, the Arsenal manager is ready to let the situation resolve itself, according to Al Jazeera Sports (via the London Evening Standard):
"At the moment the situation is on standby. I heard that [Suarez is considering legal action to force a move], but this is sometimes linked with things that you don't know as a potential buyer.
That is the story between Suarez and Liverpool and I don't know what has been said, what has been promised and what has been written and that is only Suarez and Liverpool that can decide that.
"
The squad is free to sit back and wait for something to happen, but this transfer would be too important to not go through.
Wenger promised to spend more this offseason, and even the players are antsy for a move to be made. Mikel Arteta told Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian that the squad is all "hoping" for some new faces.
While clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea have made big moves to improve heading into the season, Arsenal have made few transactions and will struggle to improve upon their fourth-place finish unless something is done.
Adding an elite goalscorer like Suarez would dramatically improve the offense while helping the club contend for a Premier League title. If things go well, a deep run in the Champions League is also not out of the question.
Also, a move like this would bring a boost to the team and its fans after a long summer of inactivity.
However, the longer things go on without a move happening, the less likely it seems. To make things more difficult, James Olley of The London Evening Standard reports that Suarez still prefers a move to Real Madrid over Arsenal.
In reality, this move would make a lot more sense for Liverpool. They would be able to send him outside of the league and not to a rival club. Meanwhile, Real would get the big signing they are currently looking for in Gareth Bale, although at less than half the price, according to David Hytner of The Guardian.
If Arsenal remain out of the picture for too long, they will miss out on yet another transfer target.
The club must stay aggressive with the situation. That could mean joining in the legal action or simply offering more in a bid to make Rodgers finally give in.
No matter what it takes, Arsenal have to make sure this transfer is eventually completed. Otherwise, this could end up being a long season for the Gunners.
