Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Latest Updates on Potential Luis Suarez Sale
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is going to be a prominent fixture in transfer rumours until the window closes on 2 September.
In addition to Arsenal, a club that has been pursuing him for some time now, there is a new suitor that is rumored to have emerged.
After presumably inking Tottenham’s Gareth Bale this week, Real Madrid’s plan is to shift their sights with a £40 million offer for Suarez, according to David Woods and Duncan Wright of the Daily Star.
With Cristiano Ronaldo preparing to possibly move back to the Premier League, Madrid has a legitimate chance at making both transfers work.
Suarez’s wishes to play Champions League football this season may be for naught, though, if his potential suitors aren’t willing to sacrifice the hefty sum cash it may take to lure him from Anfield.
According to Joe Lovejoy of the Observer, Reds Manager Brendan Rodgers laid out where the current negotiations stand:
"There are lots of stories, lots of speculation about Luis, but there's no change in the situation. Of all the clubs he has been linked with, we've had two bids from one club [Arsenal] and they were nowhere near our valuation. Unless something dramatic happens it's very simple. We don't want to sell him.
"
Rodgers also recently gave some insight about how big the potential bid would have to be if clubs hope to fulfill Suarez’s wishes. While he didn’t offer a desired figure outright, the wily manager drew comparisons between Suarez and Bale, who is rumored to be worth north of £100 million, according to Simon Mullock of the Daily Mirror.
“Now I thought Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez were the two best players in the Premier League last season,” Rodgers said.
If Rodgers' comparison is even close to accurate, the club’s asking price may simply be too high for suitors.
And Madrid may not find much success if their offer doesn’t exceed that earlier reported £40 million figure. Arsenal has allegedly already pledged £40 million in their second bid for the Uruguayan striker, according to Sky Sports.
While Suarez’s fate doesn’t seem to be getting any clearer at the moment, one thing did become crystal clear Sunday: He doesn’t want anything to do with Liverpool.
Liverpool’s packed stadium roared for their star 26-year-old striker on Saturday during Steven Gerrard’s testimonial. Suarez didn’t acknowledge the roars with any type of gesture.
This is certainly a fluid situation that will change quickly.
Liverpool has leverage, but they might not want this to drag on too much longer. Would the club rather garner a decent sum for their player or ride it out for piles of cash and field a disgruntled player on the pitch this season?
They may want to keep Suarez around if offers don’t sniff the proximity of their asking price. Then the organization could look to transfer him again in January when teams might be more desperate to surrender the cash.
