Clubs with the Biggest Luis Suarez Interest

Joe KrishnanJun 8, 2018

It's a part of the Premier League that has gradually become something of a phenomenon, and it's quite unique too.

Ever since the days of Eric Cantona and Dennis Wise, who were renowned for their controversial antics both on and off the pitch, the Premier League has continued to import players with a certain fire in their belly.

So it's hardly surprising to discover that, even despite being banned for racially abusing another professional or literally taking a bite out of another, Luis Suarez is hot property.

Of course, the reputation of football clubs these days is an important factor in creating a global brand, and in which case, none like the problem of having a troublemaker within their ranks.

Barcelona have Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta to promote their image, while Real Madrid parade Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka around the globe in an attempt to gain more popularity.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have been desperately trying to protect theirs as Suarez continues to bring the club's name into disrepute off the pitch. The only problem for them is that on it, the Uruguayan is magnificent.

With 23 goals in his 33 Premier League appearances last season, the 26-year-old single-handedly led the Merseyside club as they struggled to make an impression under Brendan Rodgers.

And with Suarez announcing his intention to leave the club this summer, per BBC Sport, we take a look at which clubs have expressed their interest in signing him.

Arsenal

With The Gunners offering Champions League football on a regular basis, it appears that a move to North London looks the most realistic option for Luis Suarez at present.

Arsenal are looking to add a marquee signing to the team to push for a title challenge, and Suarez certainly fits the bill. Supporters have been crying out for a world-class player to be brought in, and there are no doubts that he can fill the void left by Robin van Persie.

Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in signing the former Ajax ace, adding that negotiations are "amicable,"  per The Independent, although according to Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre, he won't be sold this summer, per The Mirror

Their offer was believed to have been around the £40 million mark, and despite having two bids rejected, reports in The Telegraph say that an offer of £50 million, equalling the British transfer record, would be enough to secure his signature.

Despite concrete interest from the North Londoners, they are prepared to be patient with their move. With that in mind, it could take up until deadline day for Suarez to arrive at the Emirates Stadium.

Real Madrid

After selling Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli for £35 million, the Spanish giants could do the double over the Premier League side by swooping in for Suarez this summer.

The La Liga giants, now managed by former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, have only Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata as their recognised strikers. And they are reportedly ready to take the world-class forward to the Santiago Bernabeu, but not for any more than £25 million, according to The Express.

With Liverpool's valuation much higher than that, it seems a deal may be off the table, although the Merseyside outfit would rather sell to a foreign club than a Premier League rival. As well as the difference in valuation, president Florentino Perez is concentrating his efforts on signing Tottenham star Gareth Bale, per ESPN.

It seems that Suarez may be off the radar while they remain in talks with Tottenham, but should the deal collapse, expect there to be some movement from the capital club.

Chelsea

For a brief moment, it looked as if Chelsea could steal in ahead of Arsenal and swoop for Luis Suarez, despite the Uruguay international's infamous past with the Blues.

After biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in last season's clash between the two rivals, he scored a last-gasp equaliser to cause even more controversy, having been allowed to stay on the pitch.

But it seems as if the past is the past, with Jose Mourinho looking for a new striker and Suarez seemingly ticking the boxes, per The Independent.

That was before the West London club switched their focus to signing Wayne Rooney, with the England man becoming a more realistic target, per BBC Sport. Nevertheless, should they fail to lure Rooney from Old Trafford, do not rule them out making a move for Suarez.

Bayern Munich

Manager Pep Guardiola has transformed Bayern Munich already, despite having the job for just two months. He has sold Mario Gomez and brought in smaller yet more technical players in the form of Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara.

The link between the German side and Luis Suarez may have been brief, but there is enough to suggest that the Uruguayan could be persuaded to move to the European champions if Guardiola wanted him at the Allianz Arena.

According to The Metro, the Bundesliga giants had lined up a move for Suarez back in May, which came as no shock given that his agent is Guardiola's brother Pere.

With just Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro as his recognised strikers, Guardiola may consider making a move should Suarez become available, although with his tendency to play with a false nine, it's unlikely he will revive his interest.

Paris Saint-Germain

The ambitious French outfit have already secured one Uruguayan star, and were hoping to be able to lure Luis Suarez too.

Suarez has previously refused to rule out a move to Paris, per Sky Sports, and the French club's recent rise on both on a domestic and European level has drawn some of the world's biggest stars to the Parc des Princes.

PSG boss Laurent Blanc has already shelled out over €100 milion with Cavani, Marquinhos and Lucas Digne joining the club this summer, and are not shy of bringing out the chequebook.

Although the Ligue 1 outfit are one of few who could afford to purchase the 26-year-old Liverpool forward, their options in attack, including Swedish frontman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, means a move is unlikely.
