Tottenham Transfer News: Roberto Soldado Fears Gareth Bale Will Leave
Incoming Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado is unconvinced he will get the opportunity to play alongside Gareth Bale, according to Sky Sports.
Soldado is due to have a medical on Friday after a fee of £26 million was agreed between Spurs and Valencia.
But any chance of linking up with Bale looks unlikely, with Real Madrid intent on prying him away from White Hart Lane.
“I think everybody knows about Gareth Bale,” said Soldado, per Sky Sports. “He's a great player. It will be hard to keep him but I hope he stays with Tottenham.”
A reported bid exceeding £85 million was tabled by Madrid for Bale, according to The Telegraph, but the Welshman has yet to give a clear indication of whether he wants to don the white of Real or Spurs this season.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti suggested on Thursday that the Spanish side were interested in the winger, as reported by the BBC, and the prospect of Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo lining up in the same side is bound to excite the Bernabeu faithful.
But if Spurs can hang on to the in-demand Welshman, then they have all the foundations to launch an attack on the Champions League spots.
They desperately lacked a centre-forward during last season’s run-in, with Jermain Defoe often injured and Emmanuel Adebayor’s form erratic, but a partnership of Bale and Soldado would be among the Premier League’s strongest.
Soldado finished fifth in the La Liga scoring charts last season with 24 goals, and at 28 years of age is in the peak of his career.
With the World Cup under a year away, his goals can not only fire Spurs back into Europe’s elite competition but also help land himself a spot in the Spain squad for the showpiece international tournament in Brazil.
