Biggest 'Fails' in World Football This Summer
It's been a strange summer so far, with plenty of big names and teams in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Certain superstars who can normally be found at the top of their class are currently achieving big fails.
While David Moyes and Jose Mourinho continue to attract positivity and admiration, the same cannot be said for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi.
Plenty of negative storylines continue to circulate around some of the biggest names in football.
We explore the four worst offenders to date...
4. Wayne Rooney Transfer Saga
1 of 4Wayne Rooney's future continues to be one of constant speculation and uncertainty with the start of the EPL season fast-approaching.
The whole situation from start to finish has been a complete mess with the majority of the blame landing at Rooney's door.
The very fact that Sir Alex's departure and trophy celebration became slightly tarnished (via Daily Mail) because of the untimely developing situation was totally inexcusable.
Some may have understood Rooney's frustration with the addition of Robin van Persie, but the timing of the transfer request was completely unprofessional.
It's not the first time (via BBC Sport) this has happened, but fans will not be as sympathetic to the 27-year-old's petulance this time around, should he make another U-turn and decide to stay at Old Trafford.
3. Spain's Confederation Cup Final Meltdown
2 of 4Spain have been the best team in world football for the last six years, but their demolition at the hands of Brazil was a worrying fail for the reigning World Cup holders.
Having dominated teams for so long, they got a taste of their own medicine after getting bullied in midfield resulting in a humiliating 3-0 defeat.
There are now question marks surrounding a variety of stars. Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos appeared to look like strangers defending together while the inclusion of Raul Albiol continues to be confusing.
Cesc Fabregas was a big loss but Fernando Torres again failed to make any kind of significant impact to prove the doubters wrong.
With Brazil 2014 just around the corner, Vincent Del Bosque's men could face an impossible task of successfully defending their trophy.
2. Luis Suarez Blaming the Media
3 of 4Luis Suarez has done himself no favours after expressing his desire to leave Anfield this summer.
Although he has not officially handed in a transfer request, the striker has shown a complete lack of respect for the fans who have stood by their striker after a series of on-field problems including racist remarks, swearing and biting.
The Uruguayan has served plenty of bans during his controversial two seasons in Merseyside.
But, time and time again, the club have backed their best player despite widespread condemnation from the majority of the nation.
It's a shame that the 26-year-old has not shown the same faith as he currently plots his exit away from the club, blaming the media (via ESPN) for his decision to look for alternative employment.
Arsenal are the latest club to have a reported £30 million offer (via Daily Mirror) turned down.
If Suarez were to join another English club, the ridicule he would leave himself open to would be beyond words.
But in the short EPL career of Mr. Suarez, don't be shocked if he stays in England.
1. Lionel in a Tax Mess!
4 of 4Did anyone see this coming?
Arguably the best player to have ever graced the game is currently embroiled in an alleged tax fraud scandal.
Messi and his father have been ordered to appear (via Daily Mail) in a Spanish court in September as part of an investigation into tax fraud allegations.
It is claimed the Barcelona superstar owes as much as $5.3 million but has categorically denied the charges.
According to Forbes, Messi is the 10th highest-paid athlete in the world which makes the whole situation even more bizarre and confusing.
Whether or not Messi is in serious trouble remains to be seen, but regardless of the outcome, it's certainly not the ideal preparation for Barcelona heading into a hugely important season.
