UFC 161 Results: Recapping All the Action of Thrilling PPV
UFC 161 may not have had any titles on the line, but there was still quite a bit of action on Saturday night’s pay-per-view event.
Shawn Jordan defeats Pat Barry by Round 1 TKO
The fight was over in just 59 seconds, but it was a pretty action-packed 59 seconds.
Jordan, the former college football player, made quick work of HD. Jordan was able to land a big right-hand shot on Barry, throwing him to the ground. After that, it was all over, as Jordan got above Barry and went to work on him, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
The power displayed by Jordan was quite impressive. He showed off some big shots and made very quick work of his opponent.
It was certainly quite a way to start the night.
Alexis Davis defeats Rosi Sexton by Unanimous Decision
The women’s bantamweight bout was a difficult one to score, but Davis was the winner at the end of the day.
The first round featured an interesting situation. Sexton was stuck in a triangle choke by Davis, but she was able to land a flurry of punches on the ground and was able to do some damage.
Davis took control in the second round. The fight very well could have ended, but the referee let it continue.
After that, it was all downhill for Sexton. Davis took home the win by decision, and now she could possibly be in line for a shot at the title in a fight against Ronda Rousey.
The UFC is continuing to expand for women, and after fights like this, it might garner more interest and potentially expand further.
Ryan Jimmo defeats Igor Pokrajac by Unanimous Decision
This fight was not a fun one to watch. Even Dana White thought so.
Both fighters fought conservatively, and the referee was involved often. Jimmo would throw a couple of punches then clinch, and that was basically the same pattern for most of the fight.
Even after the bout, Jimmo apologized to the crowd for the fight.
That really sums up this fight. There wasn’t much to see, and it was a bit of a disappointment.
Stipe Miocic defeats Roy Nelson by Unanimous Decision
Even though this was the same result as the previous fight, it certainly was a lot more exciting.
Although Nelson is known for throwing power punches, Miocic was able to stay away from them, going in to land a few punches then quickly getting back out. Big Country looked dazed for a second, but he was able to make it through the round.
The Ohio firefighter was able to continue circling Nelson and frustrating him by continually mixing it up. He simply wore Nelson down the entire fight, and Big Country was never able to show off his devastating right hand.
It was about as dominating as a unanimous decision could get, and now Miocic walks away with a well-deserved victory in the co-main event.
Rashad Evans defeats Dan Henderson by Split Decision
These two fighters were pretty evenly matched heading into the fight, and that’s certainly the way it turned out in the fight.
The first round seemed to go Henderson’s way, landing a couple good shots and dazing Evans near the end.
After that, it felt like Evans was getting the better of Henderson. The two exchanged few blows throughout the fight, and even fewer significant ones. However, it felt like Evans got the edge in the third round after throwing a nice flurry of punches.
It certainly wasn’t a thrilling main event, but it was a close one. At the end of the day, it felt like Evans had a slight edge in this one, pulling out the victory.
