European Tour Golfer Astounds with 2 Holes-in-One in Same Round
Andrew Dodt had what you might classify as a fairly good day.
Jason Sobel of GolfChannel.com reports the 27-year-old Australian golfer managed to ace two holes during the second round of the European Tour's Nordea Masters on Friday.
That should now put all of your life's accomplishments into perspective. I know my own personal mini-golf records seem rather silly by comparison.
In all seriousness, we stand in awe of Dodt, who will forever be able to trump any of his pals' golf course war stories. Oh, you had a hole-in-one? That's cute.
Sobel gives us the rough odds on such an accomplishment:
"Golf Digest once commissioned Francis Scheid, Ph.D, the retired chairman of the Boston University math department, to calculate an amateur golfer's chances of making two holes-in-one in the same round. His result: One in 67 million.
"
As Sobel reminds, Dodt is a veteran of the tour, but you get an idea of how rare this golf gem might be, even with his talents.
According to the report, Dodt had to figure it was his day, because he started off on the back nine, only to drop his first of two aces on 11.
He would later hit another on seven in a day that saw him finish, "with a 7-under 65 that included two aces, five birdies and two bogeys."
It's a good thing Dodt brought a healthy dose of magic to the course, because after all of that he barely made the cut.
Apparently, this is what is needed when you open with a 77 on Day 1. As for the PGA Tour, Sobel reminds us Yusaku Miyazato is the only player to have captured two aces in a round, and he did it at the 2006 Tahoe-Reno Open.
Now, consider all of your own hole-in-one stories rendered obsolete.
