UFC 160 Results: Breaking Down Every Fight from Saturday Night
UFC 160 may not have featured any huge groundbreaking fights, but it was certainly an entertaining night of fights on the main card.
Saturday night provided some big hits, but no real major upsets. Still, the series of events from UFC 160 should lead to an exciting rematch for the heavyweight championship in the near future.
Let’s go ahead and take a look at how each fight went.
Donald Cerrone Defeats K.J. Noons by Unanimous Decision
Both fighters came into this fight desperately needing a win. Cerrone was embarrassed in his last fight against Anthony Pettis, while Noons was just 1-4 in his last five fights.
Cerrone beat up Noons quite badly. By the end of the fight, Noons did not look good, with his face bloodied. Cerrone controlled the fight the whole night and came away with a pretty easy win.
Now, Cerrone is looking to ride the momentum and prove that he is still one of the better lightweights in the division.
T.J. Grant Defeats Gray Maynard by Round 1 TKO
It was announced before the fight that the winner of this bout would get a shot at the lightweight championship, taking on Benson Henderson.
The fight didn’t last long. Grant landed a big right hand early that clearly staggered Maynard, then came at him with a flurry of shots to knock Maynard down. After Maynard got up, he was quickly taken down again by Grant until the fight was stopped at the 2:07 mark.
Now, it looks like Grant will be preparing for a shot at the title.
Glover Teixeira Defeats James Te-Huna by Round 1 Submission
Te-Huna came into this fight replacing Ryan Bader due to an injury. Meanwhile, Teixeira was riding a hot streak of 18 straight wins that included a big win against Rampage Jackson.
It was quick work for Teixeira. He was able to get Te-Huna on the ground early, then he ended it around two and a half minutes in due to a guillotine submission.
After making quick work of his opponent at UFC 160, Teixeira should be fighting a top contender in his next fight. Fans will be able to get a better look at this fighter when he goes up against tougher competition.
Junior dos Santos Defeats Mark Hunt by Round 3 KO
Mark Hunt replaced Alistair Overeem due to injury, but his power was well known heading into the fight. Cigano was fighting for the first time since losing his belt to Cain Velasquez, and he was looking to get back on track.
Cigano controlled the fight almost the entire time. He landed a big shot in the first round, knocking down Hunt. In the second, he controlled it further by taking Hunt down and doing some work on the ground.
Things got exciting in the third.
Despite likely being up on the scorecards, dos Santos went with a risky move by pulling off a wheel kick to the head of Hunt, knocking him out.
With the win, dos Santos will now have a shot to retake his title from Velasquez. It will be the third match between the two, but the level of excitement will likely remain the same.
Cain Velasquez Defeats Antonio Silva by Round 1 TKO
This was a rematch between the two fighters, with Velasquez winning by a TKO in the first round in the last meeting. This was also the first title defense for Velasquez since winning the belt back.
There’s really not much to say about this fight. Velasquez simply dominated his opponent quickly, getting the technical knockout just one minute and 21 seconds into the first round.
It was a similar fight compared to the last time these two went at it, but Cain managed to make even quicker work of Bigfoot.
Now, Velasquez will be preparing to fight dos Santos for the third time. Will he keep the belt? We will find that out in the near future.
