11 Straight Wins by the Sox? No Need to Fear, Richmond is here!

Dan VerhaegheApr 28, 2009

Dare I bring up the most crushing post-season series loss in Jays history?

When the Blue Jays led the Royals three games to one in the American League Championship Series, only to see that series slip away in harrowing fashion as the Royals won three straight games…even against great hurlers Doyle Alexander, Jimmy Key and Dave Stieb.

On a related note, I wonder why Jimmy Key hasn't been inducted into the Jays wall of fame- he was adored by every fan, player and commentator that ever followed the Blue Jays in those years. Link to the '85 ALCS: CLICK!

I only bring that up because it's almost like 1985, again, now, in this four game series, as Kansas City has won the first game by a whopping score of, 7-1.

If the Jays want to continue this amazing streak of series wins, they'll have to win the remaining three games against improbable odds—Zach Greinke pitches Wednesday and in 29 IP has yet to allow an earned run giving him a nice little 4-0 mark...

I say that nobody can keep impressive marks such as those up forever.

It is Grienke, an emotionally scarred pitcher at times, who had to see psychiatric counseling last year and maybe it's the story of the season so far, but you know, one beginning run can lead to a big inning and suddenly Greinke isn't so dominant after all.

The Blue Jays are still the No. 2 offense in the American League, and I wouldn't put it past them.

These are the, 14-7, Blue Jays, who have won twice as many games as they have lost and if Scott Richmond believes in Canada's only Major League Baseball franchise enough.

The Canadian will give his most solid effort to date tonight! In Richmond we trust, and over at the Blue Jay Hunter they're calling him the Kool-Aid Dude. Ian Hunter writes a fine blog.

After all, I think nobody saw Boston winning 11 straight games after a, 2-6, start, to now stand at 13-6 and tied with the Jays with two less games in hand atop the American League East Standings, but it should comfort fans that despite Boston's recent prominence.

I want to remind people there is another position in which the Blue Jays can make the playoffs and that is called the Wild Card. Boston-Toronto currently both lead the American League East and the Wild Card by three games over Kansas City.

The last time someone said a win in April didn't mean anything was the reason they got fired—we should look at John Gibbons as a case in point...

That just makes the remaining three games against Kansas City all that much more important.

So, Let's Play Ball in the New Kauffman even if the old haunted Toronto 24 seasons ago.
