Barcelona vs. Real Valladolid: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

Barcelona might have already clinched the 2012-13 La Liga title from Real Madrid, but that doesn't mean that they'll simply take it easy in their final three games.

The Catalan club would love to crack the 100-point mark this season and would need to win their last three games in order to do so. Which, given their dominance in the domestic competition this season that has seen them lose just two fixtures all year, isn't at all out of reach for the Spanish powerhouse.

Real Valladolid will be desperate to try and stop that from happening here and represent an interesting opponent for La Blaugrana. They might not have beaten any team in the top six this year, but they have caused problems for a number of top clubs in La Liga and have shown to be more than capable of hitting the back of the net when given the chance—something they'll no doubt be looking to do here.

Previous Matchups and Recent Form

Barcelona beat Valladolid 3-1 when they met earlier in the year, with Xavi, Lionel Messi and Christian Tello all finding the back of the net for the home side.

Javi Guerra netted a late consolation goal for the home side, but the story of the night had all been about Barcelona. They recorded 66 percent possession for the match and has 11 shots to just four for Valladolid, with Messi and Pedro also both hitting the woodwork throughout the night.

As mentioned before, Barcelona have lost just twice all season and haven't been defeated in La Liga since they lost away to Real Madrid in March.

They've not lost at the Nou Camp all year and are riding a 13-game winning streak coming into this one—the same number of total goals they've allowed at home all year.

Valladolid, by comparison, come into this one with just 17 goals scored on the road all season and with just one win in their last 10 games away from home. They've kept a clean sheet in over a quarter of their matches this season, but have allowed 10 goals in their last four road games.

Key Player to Watch: David Villa, ST, Barcelona

With Lionel Messi out of action for the rest of the season, Barcelona's attack will most likely be lead by David Villa, who will have a great deal of pressure on him here.

In his 25 appearances this season in La Liga, Villa has netted nine goals and four assists. He scored two weeks ago when Barcelona beat Real Betis and is likely to be an integral part of Barca's attacking system in this one as they seek to chalk up another win.

Villa himself has been subject to a slew of transfer rumors of the past few days and could very well be playing for his future over the final few weeks of the year.

There won't be any Messi to grab the headlines, so he'll have a great opportunity to show to Barcelona—and any potential suitors—exactly what he's capable of.

Biggest Storyline to Follow: Is Too Much Happening Off the Field for Barca?

As mentioned before, Barcelona have already won the La Liga title, and therefore don't need to win here. Obviously they'd like to—keeping their home record alive and keeping their 100-point season also alive—but they don't need the points, per se.

With that lack of motivation, then, one must wonder whether Barcelona will be drawn in my the myriad of off-field incidents that have surrounded the Catalans of late.

There's the mountain of transfer rumors that continue to abound for La Blaugrana, there's Messi's injury, and then there's Tito Vilanova's ongoing cancer battle.

All of which, combined, make for an interesting time at Barcelona.

They are more than good enough to easily beat Valladolid here, but if these ongoing off-field issues continue to dominate, then they might not be as switched on as they would have been otherwise. And as they've shown this year against the likes of Real Madrid, Valladolid are more than capable of scoring goals, which could turn this into a very close encounter.

Three Stats to Consider

2. Despite all their dominance this season across various competitions, Barcelona have only won two of their last five matches (two wins, one draw, two losses).

6. Real Valladolid have lost their last six games against Barcelona, with their last win over La Blaugrana at the Nou Camp coming in November, 1997.

9.  Barcelona are nine points off Real Madrid's record 100-point season that they set last season. The Catalans can tie that mark if they win their final three games.

Prediction

Even with the title sewn up, off-field issues aplenty and Lionel Messi not available, Barcelona should still have more than enough to dispose of Valladolid in this fixture.

The away side have struggled for goals on the road this year and Barcelona will be looking for a strong defensive showing at the back given their struggles as the back of late. That could mean a close-scoring affair early that sees few chances fall for the away side, and sees the home side chalk up an early one- or two-goal advantage in this one.

Barcelona might add another goal or two late to round out the comfortable victory, and move ever closer to that elusive 100-point mark that they desperately desire.

Prediction: Barcelona 4, Real Valladolid 0
