Masters Odds 2013: Latest Odds for PGA's Top-Ranked Players

Dan TalintyreApr 10, 2013

The 2013 Masters is just around the corner now, with the world's top golfers set to play out a fantastic week of golfing action from Augusta National.

The hallowed event has thrown up plenty of memorable moments throughout the years and will likely do the same again this year as the best in the world battle it out for an iconic green jacket and the chance to etch their name in history.

Tiger Woods is the heavy favorite to win the tournament this year following on from his incredible 2013 so far, with good odds to be found for many other of the PGA's top ranked players—many of whom stand a real chance at success this week.

The Safe Bet: Tiger Woods, 3/1

There is little doubting how good Woods is playing at the moment, with a new-found confidence giving him an incredible start to the 2013 tour.

He has won three tournaments already this year, hasn't shot a round higher than 74 and has reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking. For a guy that has already shown he can perform at Augusta National, it is a very good form line coming into the tournament.

At 3/1, there isn't a lot of value to be found in Woods, but that's understandable given his performances this year and past victories.

If the American star starts strong here and is within shouting distance in the first round, then he'll be very tough to beat this year. If not, it might be worth looking elsewhere for players who could walk away with the green jacket in 2013.

The One to Watch: Phil Mickelson, 10/1

One player that's definitely benefited from the shortness of Woods' odds is Phil Mickelson, who comes into the tournament at very attractive odds of 10/1, which you won't often see for a player with the caliber and success that Mickelson has.

Lefty has been in strong form this year—making seven out of eight cuts—and showed great form to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open as well as a top-three finish at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. His past performance at the Shell Houston (a typical warm-up event for Mickelson) also showed plenty of promise about his chances in the tournament this year.

Mickelson has one of the most impressive Masters records going around—finishing in the top 10 in seven of his past 10 and winning a third of those—and will likely be in contention for the top prize again this year, making him a very attractive player to pick this week.

The Outside Chance:  Louis Oosthuizen, 25/1

However, if you're a bit like me, then the odds surrounding the top players this year are just a little short. You want something longer—something that's a little bit more boom-or-bust than 3/1.

Have a look at South African Louis Oosthuizen at 25/1, then.

This is a guy who showed last year that he has what it takes to thrive on the Masters course (losing to Bubba Watson in a playoff) and with a solid year behind him, could well take that next step towards the green jacket. Especially if he gets on a roll like he did last year at Augusta.

Oosthuizen is a very consistent golfer who rarely churns in poor rounds, which makes him a very interesting player to watch for in big events. He won the Volvo Golf Champions on the European Tour earlier this year and finished an impressive 10th in the Shell Houston Open the other week, which many players use as a warm-up event for the Masters.

He'll certainly be in contention again this year, and his consistency throughout the week could well see him close to the top of the leaderboard in 2013. After all, there's nothing to suggest he'll be any worse than last year, and he couldn't have come any closer to winning the event in 2012.

Watch Oosthuizen at 25/1 as an outside chance. Don't say I didn't warn you.
