Don't Talk About Backlash? What Is This Fight Club? WWE Backlash Preview
So I was reading an article today by B/R Writer Ryan Michael (President of the Randy Orton fan club). He is one of my favorite writers and I respect the guy, but he told me, well, us as B/R writers, to keep our mouths shut about WWE Backlash.
As if our articles have an actual effect on the outcome. I mean, if the WWE wants to go a certain way, why would they change it? Sure they love to surprise us, but what if we think of every possible scenario?
Are they going to just not do the match or something? I mean come on. Someone out there is writing something about WWE Backlash, and I am sure they have an opinion on something regarding the outcomes of matches.

So what happens if their picks come true, or the match has everything they said it would? The surprise is gone. Still, you can't just hate the fact they write anyway WWE.
I would love to say that B/R is responsible for things not turning out the way projected. Sort of like the Christian return. Sure, I wrote an article that got 20,000 reads on B/R.
Cool of course, but maybe the WWE saw it. Maybe they didn't. It had an idea for Christian's return in it, and of course it did not turn out that way, but still many thought my idea would happen because it made sense.
Enough about me though. Sure we may predict an outcome, but so what?! We still will watch and enjoy, and if it does not turn out the way we planned, then that is cool too. We can see where the WWE takes it.
You have two choices: simply write or don't write.
I choose to write, which is why I am having a dwarf among midgets moment here. I am going to be just a bit better than Ryan and tell you to write. I will not just talk the talk, but walk the walk.
This is why I am writing about Backlash. Too early for it? Maybe/Maybe not. There seems to be a lot to talk about it already, and the big matches people will want to see have already been announced.
Backlash is one of my favorite PPV's of the year. It has the, well, Backlash from Wrestlemania. Usually the opposite effect happens too. For example, the winner at Mania is not usually the same winner at Backlash.
This is usually the case in main event feuds such as Randy Orton’s feud with Triple H, particularly when the title holder has held the title for a long time.
Sorry Ryan, but I have to talk about Backlash dude. At least a few matches:
First off you have the Hardy vs. Hardy match...again.
Jeff Hardy lost at Wrestlemania in an Extreme Rules match against his brother Matt Hardy. It was a great match where both pulled out all the stops.
Then the next Friday on SmackDown, they had a Stretcher match together, the first in SmackDown history.
It was also a great match, where Matt won again.
Now, call me crazy, but does the heel always win in the end? No. He may win the Title, or feud, but in the end, the face character ends up winning.
He may just have a chance to beat up the heel, but still gets the last word. Unless they leave the company (*cough cough* Bret Hart) or get injured, which results in a revenge storyline most of the time.
So in my eyes this match is going to be good because of the rules of the match alone. No rules, that is.
It is an “I quit !” match. The “I quit !” matches have always been good, except for when Mankind supposedly quit, but oh well.
The last one I have fond memories of was between Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero, where Chavo had to hit repeated chair shots on Rey's leg to make him Quit.
Hardy vs. Hardy has the potential to be that good, if not better.
I see ladders, chairs, and tables getting involved here like at Wrestlemania, but maybe we will see more. All they need is a mic, so with that said, Jeff or Matt can make either one quit anywhere in the arena.
So we may see them take things outside, where Jeff could pull some big things off. Same with Matt.
In my eyes, you have to have Jeff win it. He needs to win it to get Matt off his back, and to get sweet revenge for what he has done to him.
Matt is going to RAW, Jeff will stay on SmackDown. So they have their chance to make it even bigger in their singles careers. So I see this ending here at Backlash with Matt quitting.
This has the potential to be better than Mania in my eyes.
Then you have the World Heavyweight Championship match between John Cena and Edge.
It will be a Last Man Standing match, and this seems easy to me. The winner has to be John Cena. Why? Well he just won it, and he is the face of the WWE. Easy reason right there.
Some say Edge has to win to take a World Title back to SmackDown. Which makes sense, but the problem with that is it won't be Edge who takes a World Title to SmackDown to me.
Cena has to come out on top here, it is just that easy. Do I see Vickie getting involved? Maybe, but probably not.
She is the RAW GM while Edge is still on SmackDown. Also she has Big Show with her there, and I see something growing out of that. But if she does get involved, I see Edge going to RAW for an extended stay.
It is Last Man Standing, just like the I Quit match, it has no rules really. All you have to do is keep your opponent down for a 10 count.
Cena just seems too strong and unwilling to give up for Edge to keep him down for a 10 count. Edge, meanwhile, does not seem that way. And he seems to be able to go down after a hard fall or hit, and stay down.
Will he? We will have to find out, but I see this match being better than Wrestlemania's, especially because The Big Show is not in it. Thank God.
The WWE Championship match is one I am not looking forward to. I like the fact that Orton is getting a chance at the WWE Title, but this stupid way makes no sense.
I mean...a six-man tag match? Did the WWE think, hey lets put ideas in a hat and see what match we can make for the WWE Championship match.
Then some intern puts a 6 man tag match in, and then WWE picks that one and goes with it.
I mean it is so stupid that it belongs in the Stupid Hall of Fame, along with Kramer from Seinfeld and Patrick from Spongebob.
We have on one side; Triple H (c), Batista, and Shane McMahon and on the other Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Ted DiBiase.
So while I am glad to see Batista back, if he has no stake in the title, why is he in the match? Same with DiBiase and Rhodes.
If Shane gets pinned by Rhodes, then Orton is champion? How does that seem right?
Triple H losing the title a weird way makes no sense, but it is going to happen. I see Orton winning the title but then kind of mocking Triple H about it.
While Legacy is out of the way, CM Punk comes in and cashes in Money in the Bank on Orton to take the WWE Championship to SmackDown.
They need a World Title, and Punk seems to be the guy who would be the best to win it and take it there.
I like Orton, but RAW just does not need 2 World Titles, it is just not right to me. They have been talking about just one, but that seems like a long way off. The WWE wants to really push Punk, so that would be a good way.
Hopefully it won't be another three-month reign, like all his titles in the WWE. Maybe a four- or five-month reign, but lets not get carried away.
Punk works here, and they can't do it on RAW again like they did before, right after a PPV.
They need to do it at a PPV to me, also needs to be LIVE. I mean if Punk cashes it in on SmackDown that would be in the Spoilers two minutes after it happened.
So RAW or a PPV seems likely. But I see it done at a PPV personally.
Also no one has ever won the WWE, World Heavyweight, and ECW Championship in the WWE. Not one.
Big Show is the only man to ever hold all three, but he held the World Heavyweight Title while he was in WCW. Not in the WWE.
He has held the ECW and World Heavyweight Championship, so the WWE Title is the only one he needs to win. It would be the World Title Triple crown if you will.
Backlash should be better than Mania for many, as the WWE was not happy with a lot of what went down. They did not like the Main Event with Triple H and Orton especially. Which was still good, but not at the level it should have been.
So with that said you would think it would have to be better and the reason the WWE added so many stipulations to matches to make up for what many are calling one of the most lackluster Wrestlemanias in recent memory.
