It's Official, Monta Ellis Will Remain A Golden State Warrior
Monta Ellis will remain a Golden State Warrior. This is according to various media sources that the Warriors will not void the contract stemming from his moped accident during last summer.
If the Warriors had voided the contract, the league would have never accepted it because Ellis had already been suspended and fined by his team for his actions.
There were even members of the bay area media that questioned if whether Ellis wanted to remain a Warrior or not. This is based on the chance that his contract could be terminated if he didn't perform well.
Too me, the issue itself was never a big deal. There was no way that Ellis would have his contract terminated by the team.
If the contract was somehow terminated, Warriors fans would revolt. The fans that have stuck by them through horrible season after horrible season would leave in droves.
Ellis, along with Anthony Randolph, are the players that the Warriors need to build around, because they are up and coming players that can make big marks in the league.
Lastly, Ellis will now be able to have a summer where he learns the ropes of playing point guard in the NBA. There's no doubt he has the skills to be able to be a solid point guard, but he's going to have to work hard to get to that point.
There is sure to be a minority fans wondering why the Warriors would not void his contract. They could easily put the blame squarely on Ellis‘ shoulders for the struggles the Warriors have had this year while he was sidelined with the ankle.
Also, his maturity level comes into question as to why was he riding a moped and risking injury in the first place? Especially after just becoming a franchise player for the Warriors.
The answer is Ellis is still young and simply made a mistake. He will more than likely never make this mistake again.
Additionally, the Warriors, for not being able to help them throughout the season already, punished Ellis.
It is not fair to judge Ellis on one mistake when he was young, and hopefully he will learn from the mistake he made and become a better person and player because of it.
