LSU's Offensive Players To Watch Out For

nathan dugasApr 15, 2009

QB - Jordan Jefferson - A game managing quarterback who cares more about moving the chains than personal stats. His starts have all been impressive considering what he was given to prepare.

Against Ole Miss he was thrown into the fire with little to no practice with first-team reps and provided a spark for an offense that had nothing going. Against Arkansas at home with only a week of being the starter he had LSU up and ready to win. The defense didn't hold up its end of the deal in the final seconds.

Against No. 14 Georgia Tech, a team coming off a win versus Gerogia and a very impressive season, Jefferson simply demolished them after having a full month to prepare. Which leads me to think: how scared do you think Washington is knowing he has had all summer to think about them?

RB - Keiland Williams - While Les may love Charles...I personally think this is Keilands year. As a true freshman he stood out on the playing field, especailly in the Sugar bowl, amassing well over a 100 yards.

With his size and speed it's hard to imagine why he hasnt been given a bigger role in the LSU offense. When in action he is always productive and provides a spark that could be developed in my mind to becoming a star player with a much higher ceiling than No. 32.

Perhaps last season was just a matter of Scott wanting it more. Hopefully if that was the case that Keiland returns the favor this offseason by taking the starting spot away. I think with Jefferson and Sheppard, that Williams is the best option back we have and maybe thats how he will be utilized. Williams is at his best when running outside the tackles and if he gets a seam....where did he go George?

WR - Terrance Tolliver - Maybe could be considered a footnote in last year's season. He is physically gifted enough to not only step into the No .2 spot this season but also have a big junior campaign because of Lafell's return.

Most schools will most likely double team Lafell this year in an attempt to stop him from becoming, at the very least an All-SEC receiver this year.

If Tolliver can take advantage sooner or later, that double team will come off opening up what could be a really special offense. Tolliver thrives with one-on-one matchups due to the fact that he is 6-foot-5 and much more physical than his weight would lead you to believe.

With Rueben Randle coming to town this year as well the pressure to play will be completely off Tolliver and I expect him to put up huge numbers from the No. 2 spot.

TE - Eric Dickerson - The player alone is solid but this pick has to do more with superstition. A player at LSU in his senior campaign will don the quickly becoming mystical No. 18. Former players Matt Mauck and Jacob Hester in their final seasons with LSU wore this number and brought home national titles. While I think that may be out of reach, I don't think it's that far-fetched for us to upset Florida in Atlanta.

Just remeber this: both the 2003 and 2007 teams were defined by defense and that's going to be the real difference between this being a 2003 or a 2007...or a 2005 LSU team....10...or 12 wins
