UFC 158: Predicting Fight Night Bonuses

Riley KontekJun 4, 2018

UFC 158, one of the promotion's biggest events of the year, will take place this weekend in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The card is headlined by a welterweight title tilt between champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Nick Diaz. Their contrasting styles will create an interesting clash, with GSP's jab and wrestling going up against the boxing and jiu-jitsu of Diaz.

Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit and a bevy of other MMA stars will be on the card, too. It will truly be a fun night, so be sure to tune in this Saturday.

Here are the favorites to win the fight night bonuses.

Submission of the Night: TJ Dillashaw

1 of 3

I don't see many fights—if any—ending via submission at UFC 158. However, there is definitely one man who can get it done.

T.J. Dillashaw is a wrestling-heavy fighter who will likely not mess around with Issei Tamura. Dillashaw should, and likely will, shoot on Tamura as soon as possible.

If and when he gets the Japanese shootist down, Dillashaw will open up opportunities with his ground-and-pound. From there, he will improve position and secure a rear-naked choke.

That could be the only submission of the night.

Also in the running: Daron Cruickshank

Knockout of the Night: Rick Story

2 of 3

As with the submissions, I really don't see too many fights ending by knockout at UFC 158.

If you do the math, it's likely a lot of fights will go to decision.

In his fight against Rick Story, I see Quinn Mulhern suffering a similar fate to a previous victim of the southpaw.

Mulhern has a skill set similar to that of Dustin Hazelett, who fought Story at UFC 117.

Story won via TKO in two rounds.

I could definitely see that happening in this fight. Story may be fighting for his job and is superior to Mulhern all around.

Also in the running: T.J. Dillashaw

Fight of the Night: Patrick Cote vs. Bobby Voelker

3 of 3

What happens when you match up two power strikers, one of whom has an iron chin?

A Fight of the Night is born.

Bobby Voelker is a knockout artist and will be making his UFC debut on this card. The Strikeforce import is notable for his three-fight series with Roger Bowling—one of the most underrated trilogies in MMA.

Patrick Cote, on the other hand, has proved in his long career that he can take a knockout punch like it was nothing. Further than that, he can dish out his own punishment, as his boxing is as solid as it comes at middleweight.

No matter the outcome, this will be the best fight of the night.

Also in the running: Jake Ellenberger vs. Nate Marquardt, Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz, George Roop vs. Reuben Duran
