Chelsea Transfers: Fact or Fiction on the 6 Biggest Blues Rumors and Speculation

Joe KrishnanJun 7, 2018

Rumors regarding transfers and managerial changes are often frequent at Chelsea, but with the club struggling in the league and their unpopular manager nearing the exit they are circulating at an all-time high.

Chelsea are known to be looking for new additions in the summer after another disappointing showing in the Premier League, currently sitting fourth in the table some 19 points adrift of leaders Manchester United.

The club brought in the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku without having a manager involved, and so it gives some insight as to how transfers are operated at the West London club.

Several big names have been linked with a move to the club in the summer, with the most reputable managers also being speculated to move to the Blues.

And we take a look at how close to the truth these possibilities are.

Enter, if you will...

Radamel Falcao Set for £50 Million Summer Transfer to Chelsea

1 of 6

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea ever since Andre Villas-Boas took over back in June 2011.

But the icing on the cake was his magnificent hat-trick against the Blues in the European Super Cup win back in August, and it was there that the Colombian made his name as a world-class striker.

The 27-year-old made a £34 million move from Porto that summer, and it's been a shrewd piece of business for the Spanish club with Falcao netting an impressive total of 45 goals in 56 La Liga appearances.

The Mirror claim there could be be some substance behind a swap deal which would see Chelsea pay Atletico a sizeable fee with Fernando Torres also making a return to the Vicente Calderon, the club where he made his name.

Falcao has previously stated that he is happy enough at Atletico, who won the Europa League last season and are currently lying in second place in La Liga. And with coach Diego Simeone signing a new deal until 2017 recently, it would seem a move could be off the cards this summer.

Nevertheless, speculation refuses to go away, and with Roman Abramovich reportedly preparing a huge offer for the former River Plate forward, it could be one he just cannot refuse.

Pep Guardiola to Ditch Bayern and Join Chelsea?

2 of 6

It was the news that shocked the world of football who had wrongly predicted Pep Guardiola's next move, but in many ways it didn't surprise many.

Bayern Munich had moved to snap up the Spaniard shortly after Jupp Heynckes revealed he would be retiring at the end of the season, and the setup at the Bavarian outfit seemed a perfect fit for the young and vibrant coach.

His time at Barcelona was filled with success, with a haul of 13 trophies in his four-year spell as manager. But he left after the Catalan giants ended the season behind their fierce rivals Real Madrid, citing exhaustion as his decision to leave.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has long desired to bring the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge in an attempt to model the Blues on the famed La Masia academy.

Guardiola, however, snubbed Chelsea's advances and huge offer of £15 million per year in order to join the Bundesliga hopefuls on a two-year contract in January.

And so, it proves that money can't get you everything you want. Just 99.9 percent...

Jose Mourinho to Return?

3 of 6

He is the Special One and there is no doubt at all that the majority of Chelsea fans would love Jose Mourinho to make a dramatic return.

But is it simply nothing more than a fantasy?

After Real Madrid overcame Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wenesday evening, it seems that perhaps the faith is being restored in the Portuguese tactician at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho has never hid his love for Chelsea and in fact, English football. He has previously called it his "home," and returning home could be a solution should he leave the Spanish giants this summer.

With the situation gradually improving after some tough recent times, Mourinho seems less and less likely to leave the club. However, the lure of Chelsea could be too much for the 50-year-old to turn down.

Luke Shaw: Has He Signed a Deal with Southampton to Move to Chelsea?

4 of 6

You can just see Luke Shaw turning out in a Chelsea, shirt can't you?

The 17-year-old just oozes confidence, the kind of confidence that gave Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge such a key role in their playing careers at Stamford Bridge.

Already an under-21 international for England, Shaw possesses raw pace and incredible stamina as he surges down the left hand side.

He follows the likes of Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott who have both graduated from the Southampton academy in recent years, and while Shaw is far from a finished article, he is certain to become a star.

The Daily Mail reported Chelsea have lined up a £10 million move, although it could cost more than that to sign the youngster.

Signing Cristian Cuevas: The Next Chilean Star

5 of 6

He's seen as Chile's answer to Angel Di Maria, but is Cristian Cuevas really what Chelsea need to bring in?

The manager is unpopular with the fans and the team continue to concede, but the the Blues' hierarchy seem to be focusing on signing the best attacking talent around, with Eden Hazard and Oscar joining last summer.

Chelsea had been tracking 17-year-old wing wizard Cuevas for a long time ever since he played in an under-17 international for his country.

It is believed the Blues have paid his club O'Higgins a fee of around £1.7 million, according to The Daily Mail, a fee rather low should the youngster ever become a big hit at Stamford Bridge.

Guus Hiddink to Move Upstairs from Anzhi Role?

6 of 6

You can almost guarantee that Guus Hiddink will return to Chelsea at some point, whether as manager or simply an advisor to Roman Abramovich, and the Dutchman's wit and intelligence is certainly required.

Hiddink, who has been in charge of Anzhi Makhachkala since last summer, has led the Russian side to the last 16 of the Europa League and appears to be heading in the right direction.

However, the 66-year-old claims he would like to retire from management, although a non-executive advisory role could be ideal for him.

His record at Chelsea is phenomenal—losing just one of his 21 games in charge in all competitions with the highest win rate of all Chelsea managers.

The former Russia coach would be interested in returning to the club for a second spell, although a return could be halted if he goes ahead with his retirement.
