WWE Profile No. 4: CM Punk From Indies To Big Time
CM Punk is currently one of the WWE's most popular performers, and has been for quite some time. This past sunday Punk went on to win his second money in the bank briefcase in a row, so i thought in honor of that achievement i would write up a profile for him.
Punk began his career wrestling in the Indy scene in places like ROH. He was part of a tag team called the chick magnets, which is where some people think the CM moniker came from. He also spent some time in TNA under the same gimmick. Punk, along with Samoa Joe, are considered to be the two cornerstones of ROH.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Punk began with the WWE in 2005 under a developmental contract. He moved up to the main roster in early 2006 joining the newly reformed ECW. His first feud was with Mike Knox over the gorgeous Kelly Kelly. This feud was short-lived however, as the New Breed and the ECW Originals began vying for Punks attention.
Punk joined the new breed, only to later disband the group, and he teamed with RVD a few times against his former teammates. His early ECW days made him a very popular name, and in 2007 he would get his chance at his first gold belt.
He feuded with John Morrison over the ECW title and won a series of No. 1 contender matches only to come up short. It wasn't until Morrison was slapped with a wellness policy violation that Punk won the belt. He would go on to defend the belt against some of the best competitors on ECW.
Punk lost his title in controversial fashion to Chavo Guerrero with some help from Edge. Soon Punk would find himself in the Money in the Bank match at WM24. He won this match and began carrying the case around with his logo stamped on it. He was drafted to Raw after Mania and cashed in the case to beat Edge for his first World Title.
His win was controversial as Edge had just been destroyed by Batista. Many people called him a transitional champion, and Punk went on to face JBL and Batista in winning efforts. Just before his Championship Scramble match Punk was assaulted by Legacy and was unable to compete allowing Jericho to pick up the win and the title.
Punk would soon bounce back by winning the tag titles with Kofi Kingston. They would only hold the titles for a few weeks but they were definitely one of the more exciting teams at the time.
Punk eventually set his sight on the coveted Intercontinental title, and after three attempts to defeat the champion, William Regal, he finally won the belt. This made him the only person to win the World, IC and tag titles in one calendar year. Punk feuded with JBL over the belt until JBL defeated him for the belt.
Just recently CM Punk set his name in the record books again by becoming the first ever back to back money in the bank winner. His short career has shown that he has the potential to be a true legend in this business. He is a great role model and is certainly able to entertain the fans like no one else.
Given that the WWE is a big mans domain, Punk has proven that the lightweights can hold their own in this business.
