Opening Day Overreactions (Humor)
Well, nearly every team has played one game, and so I think it’s fair to say we can come to conclusions about this 2009 season now that we’ve seen 0.6 percent of it.
The Phillies will not be repeating as champions. The loss of Pat Burrell has simply proved too much to overcome, as his replacement Raul Ibanez is batting .000. And Brad Lidge, perfect in save opportunities last season, hasn’t even registered a single save in 2009.
And speaking of the NL East, the Mets look to be pulling away with it. Expect them to show much more confidence in their bullpen now that it has shown to be unshakable.

10 Scorching MLB Takes 🌶️

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Still, the best player in the division and perhaps the league has to be Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez. An 800 RBI season may be in the cards, and I’m sure the great fans in Miami will be turning out in droves to see history.
There is also joy in Pittsburgh, where the Pirates have finally returned to glory after nearly two decades as cellar dwellers. Their unblemished road record is truly remarkable.
I’m really looking forward to the competition between Arizona teammates Tony Clark and Felipe Lopez this year, as they will no doubt be neck and neck in challenging the single season home run mark. Both are on pace for over 300 bombs so far, but I think they might slow down a little.
You really have to feel bad for the Dodgers after they threw all that money at Manny Ramirez and he has given them nothing at the plate so far. The guy just isn’t the player he was six months ago.
Really slow starts by the Red Sox and Rays. If they don’t play any games, I’ll have to go with the Yankees to reclaim the AL East. Still, I have to question their signing of CC Sabathia. Adam Eaton was also available and could have put up similar numbers while costing them a lot less.
New Orioles SS Cesar Izturis is really showing off his power stroke and might be a dark horse for the AL Triple Crown, but he might face stiff competition from rising Blue Jays superstar Adam Lind.
Happy days have returned to Seattle as Ken Griffey Jr. looks to lead the Mariners back to prominence. Junior has proven to be just the antidote to the clubhouse cancer of Ichiro.
But the Angels will have something to say about the order of finish in the AL West, as it doesn’t appear they will be scored on all season. If they can keep it up, they’ll be tough to beat.
There sure have been a lot of ups and downs so far this season But stayed tuned for its exciting conclusion, you never know what will happen.
