Washington Nationals-Florida Marlins: Nats Get Served By Marlins on Opening Day
Explain to me how the Washington Nationals give up a guy, only for him to make the roster of your Opening Day opponent and receive a curtain call after a 4-for-5 day that included an inside-the-park home run.
Thatโs right. A play thatโs more likely to happen on X-Box happened to the Nats in real life on their way to a 12-6 drubbing at the hands of the Florida Marlins.
Emilio Bonifacio was the former National who got the curtain call love.
He drove in two and stole three bases in addition to his four hits, and made the firing if Jim Bowden that much more acceptable. About the only thing Bonifacio didnโt do was stare down Elijah Dukes, which is good, because you certainly wouldnโt want a young guy to lose his life on the best day of his professional career.
On the other hand, Nats โaceโ John Lannan proved to be the CC Sabathia of Washington baseball today, yielding six hits and six earned runs in just three innings of work.
And we thought Jeremy Guthrie was in trouble?
If I were Rick Reilly, I probably make some quip about John Lennon and Coronas regarding Lannanโs stink job.
Adam Dunn was the lone bright spot for the Nats, homering and doubling to drive in four of the six runs on the day.
The Nats lost more than 100 games last year, and they should come in a little shorter than that this year. Iโd say 70 games is about right.
