WM25: The Game, the Rourke, and the Undertaking—Why it Didn't Suck

Joe Burgett Apr 6, 2009

I am having a problem understanding why people were upset about Wrestlemania 25 as a whole. See I watched a great PPV, one of the best Wrestlemanias ever in my opinion. Was everything that went down great, no.

No Wrestlemania is perfect, but as for me I liked it. And there is a few things that stood out to me. I will be giving a bias opinion, but try to keep it professional here.

The Money in the Bank match was great. Many moves were done that made me go Wooo similar to Ric Flair. Now there were a few mistakes, one obviously by AkD's man crush Shelton Benjamin.

He ran up a few ladders and was supposed to do a sunset flip into a powerbomb on rival MVP. He hit everything but the powerbomb. It was a shame after an amazing athletic move it was.

He and MVP improved a bit so that Benjamin could powerbomb him to the outside on Mark Henry and Tony Atlas. When Kofi Kingston ran up the ladder being held up by Mark Henry I was awed.

Some of the things I saw before in the match from ladder matches in the past. I have seen every ladder match in the history of ladder matches so I would think I am a professional on the subject.

Kofi made me enjoy because he did some things I had never seen. Benjamin did steal the show a bit as he hit that massive flip from the top of a ladder.

It was nice and I feel that they really did a good job in the match overall.

The problem in my mind was that Christian didn't win as I expected him to. CM Punk ended up winning and I am still happy myself. I am a fan of Punk's as I am sure many are.

The issue I have is that he won last year and I feel others deserve it more. With that said, we may see him cash it in soon, but who knows? Last year he had a 3 month reign as World Heavyweight Champion.

I could go on and on why Punk did not hold it longer, but I will leave it at this. He was on ECW last year and did not have the popularity to hold the World Title longer. He was on RAW this year and had more and more popularity.

So I feel he will hold it longer, but who and when he cashes it in will be a mystery.

The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels match really made me smile. There was a lot in this match I loved. You could talk about the massive moves hit by the Undertaker. Such as the Last Ride, Chokeslam, and Tombstone Piledriver.

By the Way Michaels kicked out of all of them. Taker almost broke his neck after jumping over the top rope. It seems Taker only does this move at Wrestlemania and no where else. I feel this was the best Taker Wrestlemania match of all time.

It could be the best he ever did. But that is my personal opinion. HBK showed heart and gave us a great show as usual. While I feel both are future hall of famers, I feel this match alone should be in a hall of fame class of its own.

When you talk about Wrestlemania classics, this should be one that pops into your head time and time again.

Hardy vs Hardy was one of the best matches of the night. You knew when the word Extreme was involved it was going to be epic.

Similar to Bret Hart and Owen Hart, one brother was always outshining the other. Bret outshined Owen and Jeff outshined Matt. So just as Owen did, Matt Hardy won against Jeff.

We knew that ladders would come into play and they did with a huge leg drop from the top of a ladder by Jeff. While he did not hit all of it, I know he had to have a bum led afterwards.

The table sandwich from Jeff on Matt was classic, and it looked painful for both Hardy brother. Very nice by them both.

The Twist of Fate with a chair attached to Jeff's head done by Matt was incredible. It really sealed the deal and killed off Jeff to get the win for Matt.

Now one match I was not so much into was the World Heavyweight Championship match. I almost feel asleep until the end.

It started out kind of surprising however. We saw Edge and Big Show come out, but John Cena's old music came on. When I heard this I quickly turned up the volume to make sure.

It was and that made no sense to me as the WWE is trying so much to get Cena out of his old rapper gimmick. I thought that music was going to be hidden away forever. But oh well.

Some chain gang soldiers came out to it, and then it followed by Cena and his normal music.

Like I said everything but the end was great, when Cena picked up over 700 lbs I kind of took notice of it. He gave the Attitude Adjustment to Big Show then did it to Edge right on top of Show.

Edge feel out of the ring and Cena got the pin and the win.

While I feel we needed Legends in the Wrestlemania 25 PPV, I don't think we needed a three on one handicap match. Also having Jericho win was kind of weird too.

You would think the Legends would when you have three of them and one in Ric Flair outside the ring to maybe be a distraction. It was really weird, and I was not into it to much. I liked the fact we saw new Hall of Fame member Ricky Steamboat wrestle a lot.

He was in the ring the longest and showed he could still go, so that was cool to me. But having Jericho win was just not cool to me. Now when Micky Rourke made his way into the ring and gave Jericho a nice left to the face, that was cool. Sorry for stealing your line Carlito.

One match that I liked and apparently brainless wrestling fans didn't was the WWE Championship match between Triple H and Randy Orton.

It started out nice as we saw Triple H come out and throw his sledgehammer into a mirror, apparently no bad luck came.

The match was PPV worthy, it was incredibly hyped up aswell. We saw this play out on RAW and SmackDown for the last three months.

The match was the last on the card and I was hyped to see it aswell.

Triple H quickly took Orton to the limit as he started off punching the crap out of him. We knew that Triple H could not get DQed or counted out. Because if he did he would still lose the WWE Title according to the rules set by Vickie Guerrero.

The back body drop to Triple H on the announce table was nice to watch, aswell as the DDT by Orton on Triple H from the announce table to the floor below.

He almost got counted out but made his way back in.

Orton knew he was in trouble and threw Triple H into the turnbuckle on the ref, causing the ref to go down.

This made it possible for him to get Triple H down and go outside to get a sledgehammer. On his way in it seemed Triple H got him back for all of the things he did bad to him and his family.

As Orton came in Triple H punted him in the head. Then hit him with a sledgehammer, hid it, and then started punching him over and over again. The ref grabbed him off, and then Triple H proceeded to hit the Pedigree for the win.

It was an overall great PPV and one of the best Wrestlemanias in my opinion. When it comes out on DVD I say buy it. You will like it if you were not able to see it LIVE.

People may have nias opinions, but it is only because they are fans who want something different. People may say the show sucked, but then proceed to talk about how much they love a particular match.

So for those who say it sucked, throw them a right to the face. Because they are lying big time.
