Three Things to Expect at the Baltimore Orioles 2009 Home Opener
The Baltimore Orioles open their 2009 season at Camden Yards today with a 4:05 p.m. first pitch against the New York Yankees. And by the time that pitch hits the catcher’s mitt, three things will have already set the tone for the entire year.
Obviously, to work against the Orioles.
3. It will actually be the Yankees home opener—Baltimore Edition. Camden Yards is like throwing a party and all of the co-workers with whom you never got along with showed up, only to be matched by your one cousin who happened to be in town on business. That’s what Camden Yards is like these days.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Rain came through this morning, but its likely to clear out in time for the first pitch. But cloudy covering over Camden is the perfect weather for the Evil Empire to ride in under. In a way, you can’t blame O’s fans for being bested by the opposition. The ownership sucks, they still have no pitching, and there’s no great ray of hope for the team until the Great Matt Wieters Call-Up. Still, it’s our house. There should be a little pride in letting outsiders run roughshod all over it on a regular basis.
2. There will be booing for Mark Teixeira. Since the Orioles have little to no hope left in the organization, the next best thing is to blast the guy who could’ve turned it all around for his hometown team. Mark Teixeira was supposed to be here to make things right for Charm City baseball, but instead, opted for more money and fame with baseball’s most famous franchise.
1. There will be louder booing for Jeremy Guthrie. Teixeira may get booed first, but Jeremy Guthrie will be booed the loudest. One of the worst pitchers throughout spring training and the World Baseball Classic is going to be the Orioles ace on opening day, against one of the most formidable offensive lineups in baseball. Not a good mix.
Just another classic opening day in Baltimore. And a sign of not-so-good things to come in the future.
