There is a REFFING Problem
Are the players who play football actually role models or are they just Hooligans who know how to kick a ball? In almost every game that is played, there are usually one or more instances of where a player starts bad mouthing an opponent, a referee or a referee’s assistant.
I think it is unacceptable. Ashley Cole, who is supposed to be a professional, almost broke an opponent’s leg with a disgusting challenge. He then had the audacity to claim not only did he touch the ball but he didn’t really hurt the player. When the ref called him over he started swearing and behaving like a child. I believe the referee made a number of mistakes that game but they were mistakes that human beings make. Everyone believes that the incident with Ashley Cole was the starting point of Chelsea’s demise, but they are wrong.

A few minutes before that incident Joe Cole was fouled right in front of the Referees Assistant and not only was the foul not given, Joe Cole received a Yellow Card for verbal abuse towards the assistant. I understand his frustration he was clearly fouled, and he lashed out verbally at the blind assistant. The ref then spiralled from there towards the Ashley Cole incident.
Liverpool player Mascherano, playing against Man Utd, committed two bookable offencesand got rightly sent off: he then started to behave like a child, swearing, trying to get at the ref. The game was a contest up until that point.
Yet again the ref is at middle of controversy, did he make the right decision or was his decision the wrong one, and it is very hard when you only have one chance to get it right.
So in my opinion here lies the problem: the referees are not able to be everywhere on the field, so they rely on their assistants to help them, there assistants have a limited view as they are stuck on the side line and can only see so much from such a weak advantage point.
So, the refs make a wrong decision, and the players, coaches, managers, and fans all scream abuse towards him because he is not allowed to make mistakes. Why can’t the referee look at the replay of the incident before he makes his decision, it won’t slow the game down as it happens so quickly nowadays that we can see what happened instantly.
The technology is here, so let's use it, by the time the ref has seen what actually happened the player will still be having treatment for his “injury”. In the case of the Ashley Cole incident, the ref knew it was a bad tackle but he did not know how bad, if he had seen the replay he would have seen that it was a red card offence and he would have sent him off within 30 seconds.
Why do we have to wait till after game for the correct punishment? I believe something has to be done and soon as the game is just getting more and more out of control. The children who are watching want to be their favourite player and act just like him, and I don’t think that is a good thing.
What can we do as fans to prevent our favourite players behaving like animals? What can we do as fans to make sure that the players we love and respect are respectable? I believe I have said it before, referees must be held accountable for bad decisions that they make, but players should also be held accountable for their dissent. It is time that the referees all stood up and said we need to use technology as we are not up to the task anymore.. What do you think should be done?
