Dear WWE No. 4: Let's See Some Real Women's Wrestling

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 28, 2009

In my fourth installment of "Dear WWE," I will be discussing the state of women's wrestling in the WWE.

When I first began watching wrestling, the women didn't appear on every show like they do now, but they had better abilities in the ring.

Women like Bull Nakano, Luna Vachon, and Alundra Blayze were pioneers in the '90s women's wrestling scene.

Nowadays we literally have cover girls duking it out, which can be nice to watch, but for fans of competitive wrestling it is getting stale. I truly believe there are some top talents in the WWE right now when it comes to women, but they are not fighting each other.

The women I feel deserve to be pushed are Natalya, Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, and Mickie James. These women have incredible in-ring skills and have had virtually no injuries in the past.

Kim is just returning, but she made a big impact (no pun intened) in TNA.  She was the first knockout champion and had some very physical matches.

Pheonix is currently the strongest female wrestler who can translate to big bucks.  Chyna was hugely popular because she was stronger than some of the guys and I think the same can be done with Phoenix.

Natalya is the only woman ever to graduate the Harts Dungeon wrestling school and has shown her skills all over Smackdown and ECW. While she may be relegated to ECW where there is virtually no competition, I believe she will make an impact as a champion soon.

As for Mickie James, a lot can be said for the only woman who can do a good hurricanrana in the company. She is a multiple time champion and still has the skills to go even further. Brought in as a Trish Stratus fan, she has proven herself as a very competitive wrestler, woman or not.

As for the rest of the women in the company, Maryse has shown some progress lately, becoming more vicious in the ring.  McCool and Melina have always been B-list performers despite their athleticism. I think, nay I hope that the WWE puts these women back in training to make real wrestlers out of them.

I did not mention Candace Michelle as I feel she will be let go soon due to her high state of injury over the past two years. She has appeared on TV maybe half a dozen times since 2007 ended.

TNA is kicking WWE's ass right now in the women's wrestling scene. If the WWE wants to compete with them they need to either retrain their current talent or find some new talent in the pool of women who actually train to be wrestlers before they are in the WWE.

On a final note, I feel that the whole Diva search thing should be over. We haven't seen a decent wrestler come out of this thing except maybe Michelle McCool.
