Cricket and Parents: More Alike Than You May Think
Usually parents are the ones who want to stop children from watching sports and concentrate on the studies during examination time. But there are a few, like me, who dare to to disobey and write articles like this.
Now that I have already raised the talks about parents, I think it would be a good idea to show the world the ways in which parents are similar to cricket.
1) Like cricket, parents also disappoint you pretty often. The same way in which your favourite team doesn't perform, your parents also don't live up to your expectations and make you sad.
"You are not going for that movie. You just sit and study." "Oh daddy, you are impossible."
2) Though your parents would have loved to be cricketers themselves, they will always discourage you from doing so, as they think you are spoiling your future. The same way some cricketers discourage T20 cricket, despite playing it themselves.
3) Parents are also like batsmen. Once they start hitting (scolding) the bowler (you) they don't even leave good balls. They just go on and on and on...
4) Sometimes parents force you to do something which they think will enhance your future even if you don't want to do it. Sometimes the coaches ask the players to modify their game so that they would be better placed in the future.
Don't know about parents but I have seen a lot of unsuccessful technique changes which have often shortened the player's cricket career. Like Irfan Patahn, who was unnecessarily forced to become a batsmen by Mr. (Greg) Chappell. Result, he lost his bowling, too.
5) Last but not the least, parents parents like selectors cannot tolerate bad scores. The seloctors drop the player and the parents feel like dropping you down the balcony.
I know I ask for a lot of POTDs, but for compiling such a list, I definitely deserve to be on the front page.
