WWE Raw Results: Best Matches and Moments from the Latest Episode
An episode that centered around who CM Punk will face at Hell in a Cell featured a number of entertaining matches and segments from unlikely sources.
Ryback is in fact Hell in a Cell bound with John Cena's fervent approval. Regardless of how fans think his career should be booked and if he's ready, it's Punk and Ryback time in two weeks.
This Raw helped build momentum for the other matches that will be featured on the pay-per-view. Big Show did his best to get a buzz going for his match.
Miz and Kofi Kingston took center stage.
Unfortunately, what could have been a spectacular main event was cancelled and rescheduled due to Rey Mysterio apparently being ill. The Rhodes Scholars instead dominated Primo and Epico.
Jinder Mahal's turban and leather jacket combo is not on the list, but Raw gave us several other memorable moments.
The Big, Angry Giant
1 of 5A frustrated Big Show addressed the WWE Universe to open the show.
While not known as an elite mic worker, Big Show put on an engrossing performance. He talked of how he felt that Sheamus and Booker T were mocking him, of his frustration over losing the World Heavyweight title in 45 seconds.
The crowd was hot throughout much of his speech, even inciting a "45 seconds" chant.
His subsequent short match with Daniel Bryan served to accentuate the narrative of his promo.
Bryan played the pesky underdog who couldn't quite get his offense going against the big man. Show wore down Bryan with a bear hug and clubbed him with forearms.
Big Show ended the match the victor, blood smeared around his left eye.
Antonio Cesaro vs. Justin Gabriel
2 of 5In one of many short matches on the show, Antonio Cesaro vs. Justin Gabriel made the most of their time.
The two talented wrestlers both gave stand-out performances, just like they've been doing together on Superstars recently.
Cesaro delivered his usual hard-hitting moves. He began the clash with a clothesline that had Gabriel rotating in the air like a propeller.
He later thrust his knee into Gabriel's ribs along with his trademark mid-air European uppercut.
Even with the brevity of the action, Cesaro displayed championship-level strategy by working on the rib area. When Gabriel finally hit his 450 splash, he hurt himself just as much as he did Cesaro.
It's refreshing to see the United States champ featured so frequently on TV. Cesaro has been a consistent producer of high-quality matches, and his latest is another example of that.
Miz's Mic Performance
3 of 5The Miz hosted Miz TV with current rival Kofi Kingston as his guest.
A confrontation involving Larry King an episode ago and a challenge on Main Event were the beginnings of their feud. Their word-centered showdown was the feud starting in earnest.
Miz showed us again why the WWE believes in him so wholeheartedly.
He rattled off a number of brilliant lines and played the sleazy, arrogant heel with precision.
After watching a clip of Kingston hitting him with the Trouble In Paradise on Main Event, Miz told Kingston he could now put that kick into his "thin file of memorable moments." He was convincing in his harsh appraisal of Kingston, telling the Raw crowd that Kingston is nothing but a B-player.
In his words, "I'm the superstar, you're the novelty."
The Intercontinental Champion pulled off the right mix of smug and smooth.
Kingston will have no trouble providing excitement once the bell rings, but it's clear that Miz is going to lead in their verbal dances all the way.
Wade Barrett vs. Sheamus Again
4 of 5The World Heavyweight Champion and Wade Barrett proved for the second straight week that they'd put on a much better Hell in a Cell match than Big Show and Sheamus.
Their chemistry was as top-notch as it was in their first match.
In a reference to that first meeting, Sheamus saw Barrett's spin kick into the steel steps coming and dodged it easily. Having Sheamus not fall for the same move added realism to the match.
Both men rocked each other with strikes and power moves with Big Show looking on. Sheamus found himself tied up in the ropes, helpless against Barrett's vicious attack.
Barrett went on to mock his opponent, banging his chest Sheamus-style.
Big Show eventually interfered, prematurely ending the best match of the night, teasing fans who will have to wait until a future pay-per-view to see Barrett and Sheamus end in a clean finish.
Trouble in Paradise
5 of 5In their non-title match, Kofi busted open Miz's head with a scintillating kick.
Kingston ended their match with his finisher, Trouble in Paradise. It was clearly done too violently, something Miz isn't going to like Tuesday morning, but something the fans loved.
The Nashville crowd popped with half sympathy, half excitement as Miz's head snapped backward.
Doctors attended to a clearly dazed Miz. Blood oozed from his forehead.
Kingston may get a talking to about wrestler safety backstage, but he will have the Internet buzzing with fans eager to watch that nasty shot again and again.
It's certainly not the first time Kingston has rocked Miz with the move. Check out the video for proof.
