Would you want Terrell Owens on your team? B/R Writers Weigh in.

Steve ChottMar 6, 2009

"Get your popcorn ready, 'cause I'm gonna put on a show."

Oh, and a show he has put on. Terrell Owens' whole NFL career has been a soap opera, from San Fransisco to Philadelphia to, most recently, Dallas.

Owens has always made headlines off the field, giving ESPN something to talk about every day at 6:00 p.m. EST, and yet he still performs great every Sunday on the field.

But there is a question I am here to ask today: If your team was without a quality wide receiver, would you want Terrell Owens?

Well, I go back and forth on my opinion with this subject, so I decided to set out and ask the opinions of several sports fans across Bleacher Report to find out what they thought about having Owens on their team.

First to answer me make was Ryan Michael, an NFL and Colts fan here on Bleacher Report. He told me:

"I'm a Colts fan, so needless to say, we are not in dire need of a big WR. But if we were, my answer would be different from the Colts organization's.

"Yes, I would want T.O., so long as we were not giving him major amounts of money. I do not like T.O., but the media is way too hard on him. Even if he causes a distraction here and there, how bad could it be? I don't think him being there makes it hard for other players to do their jobs.

"He was much better in Dallas than he was in San Fran and Philly. He makes plays on the football field and would be a great asset to whatever team gets him."

Next, I talked to my good friend T.J. Jenkins, who is a Steelers fan on here. He said:

"Nope. (The) Steelers (wouldn't) put up with his attitude. Not to mention we already have Hines Ward (and) Santonio Holmes, and I think Limas Sweed is going to be a good No. 3 next year."

My quest for opinions next brought me to Sportsmeister, a New York Giants fan on BR.

"I'm a Giants fan, and while I would like to see a player with T.O.'s natural talents on the team, I don't think I could root for someone that drags a team down like he does.

"I highly doubt the Giants would look to take Owens for the fact they still have Plaxico Burress, who has given the team enough headaches as is, and if they were to pursue another No. 1 receiver, I would expect them to stay away from potential problems.

"On a completely different note, I doubt the Giants would want to work with Drew Rosenhaus, who is Owens' agent, and who ruffled enough feathers in N.Y. when he offered Burress to all 31 teams in a trade."

Finally, I talked to Eagles fan Bryn Swartz, who straight up told me that his team "wouldn't want T.O."

Now, this article is missing one thing, right? My opinion!

Personally, if the Giants said they weren't bringing back Plaxico Burress (or he gets locked up in jail) I would want him on our team. We need a good receiver to help out Eli.

Before Plax arrived, we had Jeremy Shockey to help out when Eli had no reciever to throw to. Now we have Kevin Boss and no matter what anyone says, he is no Shockey. Not close.

Now, if Owens is such a team destroyer (and I have written about this in the past), why would I want him, right?

Well, no matter what he does to the team, at the first sign of trouble, Tom Coughlin will whip him into shape, kick him off the team, or suspend him. Coughlin doesn't put up with horsing around.

But is this move reality or a dream?

Most likely, because Coughlin doesn't like loud mouths and the Giants aren't that kind of organization, this is probably a dream. That and the fact the Raiders will probably throw $60 million at him. But hey, I'll get my popcorn ready just in case.

I thank everyone for reading this and all of the included people for their input.
