PGA Tour Championship 2012: Breaking Down Top-5 Point Leaders' Chances to Win
The FedEx Cup will conclude at the 2012 PGA Tour Championship and the top-five points leaders all have an excellent shot at winning the event.
Heading to East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga., this is how the top of the standings look.
| Player | Points |
| Rory McIlroy | 7,299 |
| Tiger Woods | 4,067 |
| Nick Watney | 3,586 |
| Phil Mickelson | 3,420 |
| Brandt Snedeker | 3,357 |
The point system is designed so that any of these players would win the FedEx if he wins the Tour Championship, according to PGATour.com.
Here is each player’s chance at taking home $10 million in prize money.
Rory McIlroy
McIlroy is the hottest player in golf right now.
The 23-year-old is coming off consecutive victories at the BMW Championship and the Deutsche Bank Championship. Two tournaments before that, he won the second major of his career at the PGA Championship.
With three tournament victories in the past two months, McIlroy is undoubtedly the favorite to take home this season’s FedEx cup.
Odds: 2-1
Tiger Woods
Woods has slowly improved throughout the season and has two top-five finishes in his last two tournaments.
He has teased fans this season by showing glimpses of the form he was in prior to 2010, but has yet to unleash a dominant performance in an important tournament.
The Tour Championship offers Woods his last chance to show that the he still has the talent and killer instinct to stand head-and-shoulders above every other golfer as he did earlier in his career.
Odds: 5-1
Nick Watney
Watney has just one win at a PGA Tour event this season, but it came at The Barclays—a FedEx Cup playoff event.
While he does not have the pedigree of other highly ranked golfers, he proved in late August that he certainly has the ability to unleash an excellent weekend of golf.
Watney is long shot compared to Woods and McIlroy. His noteworthy performances have been few and far between this season, and although he has played well recently, it is unlikely that he will win this weekend.
Odds: 18-1
Phil Mickelson
Lefty put together a string of disappointing tournaments at the start of the summer, but he has made a roaring comeback at the last two tournaments.
He tied for fourth at the Deutsche Bank Championship and tied for second at the BMW Championship to put himself in contention for a cup-winning performance.
Mickelson is a seasoned player with the experience and savvy to win in Atlanta and take home an impressive payday.
Odds: 8-1
Brandt Snedeker
Snedeker has shown the ability to be one of the best putters on the tour, and is currently ranked first in strokes gained-putting.
He took sixth at the Deutsche Bank Championship and took second at the Barclays. He has six top-10 finishes this season.
Snedeker certainly has a chance to win this tournament if he continues his excellent putting and is able to receive a little luck when getting onto the green.
Odds: 14-1
