Manny Pacquiao: Pac-Man Makes Wise Decision to Fight Marquez over Bradley

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Manny Pacquiao will make more money fighting Juan Manuel Marquez instead of Timothy Bradley Jr. in December, but that's not the only reason he made a wise decision striking a deal with the historic Mexican on Wednesday.

Pacquiao's third fight with Marquez in November reportedly generated 1.25 million pay-per-view purchases, while his bout with Bradley in June reaped only 850,000 pay-per-view buys, via The Los Angeles Times.

So, obviously, the Filipino great stands to gain much more financially in a fourth clash with Marquez.

But it also makes for a better fight and points Pacquiao down a better road to end his career.

Tell me, in terms of the level of competition, who would you rather see duke it out, Pacquiao and Marquez or Pacquiao and Bradley?

Well, that's simple. Marquez has been Pac-Man's toughest foe historically, and there are many who believe he won the controversial fight in November, so Pacquiao versus Marquez is the answer.

It was rather apparent after Pacquiao's own controversial loss to Bradley in June that he wouldn't entertain the thought of a rematch because he believed he won that fight (as did most of the population). He wasn't going to go touch gloves with a less-talented fighter again just because of two boneheaded judges (no disrespect to Bradley, he's just not in the same class as Marquez).

Frankly, it wasn't worth his time, even if he did lose his WBO welterweight title.

But, for Pacquiao, it's not about how many titles he goes out with anymore. It's about finishing his legendary career off strong. If he shows up motivated against the battle-tested Marquez on Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, he has a chance of doing just that. It could be yet another memorable fight between the two rivals (hopefully, without a controversial decision).

With that, perhaps Pac-Man could fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year and then call it a career.
