Manchester United: Why It's Easy to Believe Sir Alex Wants Ronaldo Back
It's the ultimate, "He couldn't, could he?" Could Cristiano Ronaldo return to the club that made his name?
Manchester United have been linked with an impending offer for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the two undisputed best footballers on the planet.
The less-than-reputable Daily Mirror has been reporting that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has told club officials to, "pay whatever it takes to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford."

Naturally, the tabloid's source for this rumour is merely cited as a "United source"—the stock get-out-of-jail-free card for British newspapers in their reporting of the latest transfer tittle-tattle.
The Mirror claims that "Ferguson will ask the Glazer family—who own United—to do everything in their power to re-sign the 27-year-old."
But of course, that's if the Portuguese superstar wants to leave Madrid.
The most popular rumour as to Ronaldo's current unhappiness at Real is that he's not content with his current wage packet and his club's apparent refusal to negotiate new terms.
But if he did want to leave, you can have no doubt that Fergie would be tempted into bringing him "home."
It is well known that the Scotsman considers Ronaldo the zenith of the profession. Last season, he said as much to the club's website in unequivocal terms.
"Well, I had Ronaldo here as a player and I think he is the best player in the world," he said (h/t Daily Mail).
The player himself has also admitted in the past that his fondness for United has not diminished since he left, revealing to Zoo that, "I speak with Sir Alex sometimes and of course I miss Manchester" (h/t Daily Mail).
In his time at Old Trafford, Ronaldo scored an astonishing 118 goals, most of which from an attacking midfield position.
Whilst United have recently signed Robin van Persie, one of the most clinical finishers on the planet, the opportunity to re-sign Ronaldo would be beyond temptation.
Who in world football wouldn't want a player of his quality on their books?
The only thing that might prevent the move, should club and player be interested, would surely be the expense of a transfer, and the consequent wage demands.
But for now, such issues can be shoved to one side as Manchester United fans dream of the ultimate reunion.
