WWE: How Damien Sandow Could Be a Main Event Superstar
Damien Sandow. At first, hearing this man's name meant nothing to me until I saw him in action and discovered a brand new Superstar to support and follow.
This character is exciting!
All this stuff about him being a savior and a martyr is brilliant. That night where D-Generation X destroyed him in the ring was well executed and served to elevate him a little more.
Now, it is without a doubt this performer will rise to the main event scene. It may not happen so soon but it will.
Here's why.
Above All Else, He Has...
1 of 4Sandow has incredible—and I mean incredible—charisma and presence on stage and in the ring.
You may hate him but I absolutely love this character. Vain, self-centered, arrogant and playing the victim when clearly he is a villain, all perfect attributes to create a future top "heel" for WWE.
Plus, his ring attire and acrobatics are somewhat reminiscent of "The Genius" Lanny Poffo which, back in the day, was a character I never understood until I grew up. He was one hated Superstar and was eventually involved in an angle with both top stars of the day in Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior.
That was nothing.
I believe Damien Sandow has the "it" factor to be essential in creating a great villain.
As a bad guy, this man is a winner.
He Can Back It Up in the Ring
2 of 4The self-proclaimed savior and martyr is very good in the ring.
He handles himself well and made a great duo alongside Cody Rhodes (another future star). So far, he hasn't suffered a clean loss in the ring which means there are a lot of places to go from here.
That's what is needed right now: great characters who not only possess mic skills but actual ability.
Sometimes you just can't have both but Sandow has what it takes.
His matches are good and well paced and even brought the big bad "Funkasaurus" down. That was nice to watch. I dislike "faces" as they are so limited in what they can do.
This villain impressed people and always gets a "hit" from critics, so why stop pushing a good thing when it's doing all right?
On a side note, I cannot shake the idea of having a "Face" Miz defending the Intercontinental championship against Damien Sandow.
Am I crazy or would that be something fun and exciting to watch?
Tons of Untapped Potential
3 of 4Like Alberto Del Rio in his beginning, Damien Sandow is still virtually untouched by the unlucky hands of Creative.
Del Rio's potential was ruined because of bad timing (WrestleMania XXVII) and horrible booking (MITB 2011 and beyond). There is no way out of this now, I stopped believing in that character.
He is boooring.
The intellectual savior of the masses is still a rather new character but in his short tenure, has found a way to get noticed.
Just look at what he is wearing and that beard? It is almost too much (in a positive way).
The over-kill however, is the entrance theme he comes out to—"Hallelujah!"
Cheesy to the max! I almost exploded when I heard it the first time. It was love at first sight. I told myself, "Oh! I like him!" and he hasn't disappointed yet.
There is so much to do with this guy right now. Feuding with Brodus Clay will be good for him but someday soon, it will have to be brought up a notch.
To be clear, facing Sheamus for the World Heavyweight championship would be a complete disaster.
So that direction is NO!
Patience Is the Key for Damien Sandow
4 of 4In retrospect, this character has his unique look, the ring skills, the mic skills, the charisma, the heat factor and the right entrance theme.
On paper, that spells only one word: success! Or as Antonio Cesaro would say, in Italian: "Successo!"
This is all on condition that the writers of WWE do not push him too fast like Jack Failure or Alberto Del Boring.
Look at Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler. Successful IC Champs and now slowly taking their time being built up for the top.
Those last two as well as Damien Sandow should be handled with great care! They look great and have the tools they need to succeed.
Imagine the villain side of WWE between now and 2015: CM Punk, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett, Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes.
Can you say yikes!?
