Tomasz Adamek vs. Travis Walker: Fight Time, Date, Live Stream, TV Info and More

Tim DanielsSep 6, 2012

Tomasz Adamek will defend his IBF North American heavyweight title on Saturday afternoon against Travis Walker. Adamek claimed the vacant belt after defeating Eddie Chambers by unanimous decision less than three months ago.

The 35-year-old Polish veteran has endured his fair share of ups and downs over the past 12 months. He was given a shot at Vitali Klitschko's WBC heavyweight title, but was no match for the longtime champion. He has since bounced back with wins over Nagy Aguilera and Chambers.

Walker rebounded from a loss of his own to Kubrat Pulev by knocking out Kali Meehan in March. Of the American's 39 career victories, 31 have come via KO. The Meehan win gives him some momentum heading into one of his biggest bouts to date.

Here's a look at all of the important information for Saturday's fight followed by keys to victory for each boxer and a final prediction for Adamek vs. Walker.

Where: Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

When: Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. ET

Adamek's Keys to Victory

The most crucial thing for Adamek is playing top-notch defense. Walker will be on the attack from the opening bell and won't change his approach until the fight ends. If Adamek leaves himself exposed, Walker will take advantage.

On a positive note, it helps keep the game plan easy for Adamek. He needs to focus on counterattacks and quick movement. That should keep Walker off balance and prevent him from setting his feet to deliver a haymaker.

Adamek is a heavy favorite for a reason. He's a more balanced boxer with more high-profile bouts under his belt. As long as he avoids going for too much early and keeps the fight at his pace, the champion should retain his title.

Walker's Keys to Victory

Walker has enough power to end the fight with a single shot. He must do whatever he can to put himself in position to land it. But since Adamek knows what to expect, it's something that's clearly a lot easier said than done.

The lack of versatility has stopped Walker from taking his career to the next level. Having elite power is a terrific asset, but having other weapons in case an opponent is a solid defender is essential. Walker has only had moderate success adding variety.

Luckily, he doesn't have much to lose on Saturday. Adamek is expected to win and is defending his title. Walker can enter the fight with a true underdog mentality and just keep taking shots with hope one of them lands perfectly.

What They Are Saying

MainEvents.com passed along comments from both fighters leading up to the fight.

Adamek talked about the intrigue of his opponent's bouts and the crowd:

"

"I like Travis as an opponent because he is a tough fighter and all his fights are interesting. Every fight he fights is for the fans, like me." He added, "I have fought at Prudential Center eight times and I am excited to come back to give my fans a good fight and another exciting win."

"

Walker showed he doesn't lack confidence despite being the underdog:

"

"Adamek thinks that I will be an easy win for him, but he will be greatly surprised at the combination of finesse, strength and power that I will utilize in this fight. I'm going to stop him, period."

"

Prediction

It would be a surprise if the fight went the distance. Walker will attempt to score a knockout early and, if he's unable to capitalize, Adamek should take control and earn the KO of a worn down challenger. The latter is far more likely.
