Denver Broncos: Nothing Like a Little Trade Talk to Bring Cutler Down to Earth
There’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance. I personally felt Jay Cutler often crossed that line, with certain statements made in comparison of himself and John Elway.
Three years after arriving on the NFL scene, he’s a Pro Bowl quarterback, and easily the most productive hurler of the 2006 class.
He dethroned Jake Plummer, and started every game since, making you believe that of all the players on the Broncos roster, it was their quarterback having job security. We know now that the assumptions were wrong, and the new management in Denver didn’t hold Cutler in the same graces as the Shanahan regime.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
When a potential trade fell through that would have sent Cutler packing, the young and sometimes arrogant quarterback, came plunging back to earth.
Of course, this type of news is very upsetting to a man that claims he’s already physically comparable or superior to a Mile High legend of the past.
It’s absolutely infuriating to the man that uses his down time to take pot shots at San Diego’s Philip Rivers. How could they do this? And of all people, they were attempting to open the 2009 season with Matt Cassel under center? If you view it from a pompous high horse, Jay Culter was being traded for a 7th round pick that has only 15 starts over a span of eight years…the nerve of some people!
But let’s face it, this has little to do with talent, and much to do with a personal relationship developed between new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and Matt Cassel.
This time I’m siding with Cutler and not calling out arrogance, as his anger is both reasonable and rightful. It’s not everyday that you see the young face of a franchise being offered in trade for a face in New England that would rank third in football popularity, behind Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen.
McDaniels, new on the job, has already made a major mistake.
According to Bill Williamson of ESPN, Cutler now wants to be traded. Any hopes of a new coach establishing a relationship with his franchise player are now broken. The situation now has the potential to create a domino effect. If those dominoes begin to fall, the biggest losers will become the Denver Broncos and first round quarterback prospect Matthew Stafford.
The big winner will be the Detroit Lions, holding two first round picks for trade, and keeping a careful watch of the situation in Colorado.
