Tiger Woods Makes History with 3rd Place Finish at Deutsche Bank Championship

Ben ChodosMay 31, 2018

Tiger Woods played consistent golf through all four rounds at the Deutsche Bank Championship and finished with a final score of -18, which landed him in third place.

The result made Woods the first golfer to break the $100 million earnings mark, as noted by Golf Digest via Twitter.

Woods started the day six shots behind Louis Oosthuizen and made few mistakes as he traveled through the course at TPC Boston. He did not have a bogey through his final 18 holes, finishing the round with a score of -5.

Despite his fine outing, Woods could not catch Rory McIlroy. Oosthuizen also did not continue his thrilling pace today, finishing even on the day and dropping to second place. McIlroy played extremely well in the final round, shooting -4 to win the tournament.

Going into the Deutsche Bank Championship, Nick Watney led the FedEx Cup standings with Woods in third and McIlroy in fourth. Now, McIlroy takes the top spot with Watney dropping to second and Woods staying in third, as reported by Sky Sports Golf via Twitter.

The top 70 players will face off at the BMW Championship—the next PGA Tour playoff event—starting on September 6.

In Boston, Woods started extremely well with a 64 at the opening round. He followed up that performance by shooting a 68.

He has built a reputation this year for starting fast then fading on the weekend, but he managed to buck that trend at this tournament. Woods shot a 68 in the third round and finished the tournament strong today.

In Woods’ previous outing at The Barclays, he shout a 76 in the final round—his worst score at the tournament by four strokes—and plummeted down to 38th place.

This was typical of his final rounds this year, and he failed to score better than a 72 in any of the four majors.

But Woods has fared much better at the tournaments that are not majors, and he will look to continue putting in impressive performances as the FedEx Cup draws nearer to its close.
