Kane: Why He Deserves a Lot More Credit as 1 of the Best Workers in WWE

Sebastian MaldonadoJun 7, 2018

Kane deserves more credit than he gets as one of the best workers today in the WWE.

It’s not something we hear often, but it’s true. Kane is one of the most athletic and underrated big men to step in the WWE ring. Ever since taking on the mantle as the Undertaker’s on-screen brother, Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs, made the character his own.

Since his debut as the character on October 5, 1997, Kane has grown in front of the fans during the different eras and phases of the WWE. He remained constant and has evolved in his ring work and character.

His hard work has paid off, nearly winning every WWE title in the company’s history with the exception of the U.S. title and the now-defunct European title. Now, Kane is the talk of the town again for stealing the show in the anger management skits released last week.

Here are five examples of how Kane’s work has gone underrated and how he should go down as one of the best workers in the WWE.

Anger Management

1 of 5

As mentioned earlier, Kane shined in the anger management skits.

Credit goes to Daniel Bryan and the WWE creative team as well for utilizing the skit to the wrestlers’ strengths. They were very effective and definitely the highlight of last week’s Raw.

Kane outshined everyone in the skit. The reason why was the nostalgia factor. He’s had so many infamous moments in his career, and he named all of them.

From his history with the Undertaker and Paul Bearer to the infamous “Katie Vick” storyline, he mentioned nearly every part of his career, both successes and failures. Revealing it all, it was obvious it didn’t matter to him. He addressed everything.

His delivery made the sketch worth it. It only shows how far Kane’s come from cutting his own promos.

Recent Matches and the Triple Threat

The matches over the summer with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan revitalized Kane.

If you look at his matches earlier in the year with John Cena and Randy Orton, you can see Kane regaining an extra step in his game.

He demonstrated the Kane of old in his matches with Punk and Bryan. Even though those two got over and won, Kane still proved he has what it takes to put on a capable match.

The Kane of old has returned. It couldn't have come at a better time for him.

Plus, his feud with Daniel Bryan will seemingly continue. Expect more of the classic "David vs. Goliath" style match between these two.

Athleticism

3 of 5

When all is all said and done, Kane should go down in wrestling history as one of the most athletic big men in the WWE.

For a guy his size, Kane has always been able to move. His top-rope clothesline still looks devastating when struck. Kane also added a low dropkick to the face, which looks just as effective.

Kane’s athleticism has been declining, but that’s expected. Knee problems have prevented him from performing the tombstone piledriver the way he used to. However, it’s still effective for him as a finishing maneuver.

Plus, his chokeslam is one of the best in the business.

World Title Reign

4 of 5

Kane’s last world title reign was well deserved. During that six-month reign and leading up to it, Kane was able to display many sides of his character, some never saw before.

He first was involved in the storyline of finding out who put Undertaker in a vegetative state. The storyline covered for Undertaker’s orbital bone fracture in a match against Rey Mysterio. It was later revealed Kane himself was the one who hurt Taker in the storyline.

Kane would work with Mysterio, Taker and Edge throughout this time, proving he can work different styles with different opponents. His promo work also made SmackDown fans invested in his reign.

Even though some could argue their matches were not classics, it was Kane who should be commended for getting the fans intrigued in what he did next.

Class and Respect

5 of 5

If anyone should have the utmost respect from his peers and fans alike, it’s Kane.

It’s not just the quality of work he’s done but also the quantity. Kane has put over many wrestlers during his career and still continues to do so. He put over Cena, Orton, Punk and Bryan over the course of 2012.

It’s because of his unselfishness that has led to many opportunities for him. It’s why he’s had runs with the numerous titles and featured in marquee matches.

Kane, no, Glenn Jacobs deserves all the credit for his hard work over the years. His Kane character should go down as one of the most complex, riveting and electrifying characters in WWE history.

More importantly, Kane deserves the credit as one of the BEST in the WWE today.
