Fantasy Football: 5 Under-the-Radar Picks for EPL Week 2
Not to gloat, but if you were like me and were wise enough to include Swansea City's new recruit Michu in your fantasy football team, you'll currently be reaping the rewards of a prolific first week of Premier League action.
If there's one given in the EPL though, it's that the early weeks are the most difficult to predict in terms of top performers.
However with Week 2 fast approaching in the world's most prominent league, it's time to forecast who this weekend's Michu will be.
Here are five players you'd be wise to include in your fantasy team.
(All player costs are according to ESPN Premier Fantasy Football).
Danny Graham
1 of 5If their excellent performance at QPR suggested anything, it's that Swansea City are fast becoming one of the most devastating teams on the counter-attack.
And whilst their No. 1 striker Danny Graham failed to find the back of the net, he is more likely than not to right that wrong this weekend.
Swansea play host to West Ham on Saturday, and despite the fact that the Hammers are no slouches in defence, I find it hard to foresee a low-scoring game considering the Welsh team's style of football.
With a cost of only 5.9 on ESPN Fantasy Football, Graham would be a low-risk gamble for your team.
Carlos Cuellar
2 of 5Sunderland's recent acquisition Carlos Cuellar looks to have slotted comfortably into Martin O'Neill's first team, and was impressive as his team kept Arsenal from scoring in last Saturday's 0-0 draw.
At a cost of only 5.0, Cuellar is a cheap option with a high chance of earning another clean sheet this weekend as his team play host to new-boys Reading.
Reading will most likely be fatigued going into the clash, having had to play two games this past week against tough opposition in Stoke City and Chelsea.
Despite having prolific striker Pavel Pogrebnyak in their ranks, I predict that they'll find it difficult to break down Sunderland.
Grant Holt
3 of 5Despite being blown away by Fulham last weekend, I can well see Norwich City bouncing back on Saturday as QPR travel to Norfolk.
Mark Hughes' side have one of, if not the worst defence in the Premier League, and will struggle to keep Grant Holt from finding the back of the net.
Holt's cost on ESPN Fantasy Football, is a relatively low 6.4, especially considering the fact that he netted an impressive 15 goals in the league last season.
Another cheap option with high potential for reward.
Adam Lallana
4 of 5Southampton's goal-scoring midfielder Adam Lallana looked impressive in his team's clash with Manchester City last Sunday, and will most likely carry his fine form into this weekend in a clash with Wigan.
If Roberto Martinez wants to keep his side from relegation this season, his team will need to improve their defensive performances.
At times against Chelsea they looked all over the place, conceding twice in the space of five minutes.
Of all of the Saints' midfield options, Lallana is a good bet to find the net at a cost of only 5.2.
Franco Di Santo
5 of 5On the flip side of the coin, Southampton didn't fare much better at the back, conceding three against Manchester City, and looking vulnerable at the back throughout the defeat.
Wigan's Franco di Santo, whilst missing a ton of chances against Chelsea, found himself in good attacking positions throughout the game. If he can become more clinical in front of goal, he could help himself at Southampton in Saturday's game.
At 5.5, di Santo is perhaps undervalued by ESPN, especially considering his price is the same as Bebe and Park Chu-Young, two strikers who would be lucky to find themselves on the bench for their respective teams.
Expect a high-scoring game from these two, with Lallana and di Santo two good options to impress.
