WWE SummerSlam 2012 Results: If Triple H Is Done Wrestling, What Happens Next?

David LevinJun 7, 2018

Did we really witness a huge chain of events on Raw Monday night with the sudden retirement of Brock Lesnar, the rumors of retirement of Triple H and the immediate termination of Chris Jericho after his loss to Dolph Ziggler?

Monday night’s wrestling program was more entertaining than the SummerSlam PPV.

And let’s not forget the actions of CM Punk going all "Karate Kid" on Jerry Lawler.

Things on Monday nights are either going to get a lot more interesting or things just got a lot more boring, in my opinion.

The idea that Lesnar, after making Triple H tap out on Sunday night and then being anointed the new “King of  Kings” only to suddenly retire would seem more like a set up than anything else.

The comments made on Twitter about Triple H or Touts throughout the WWE broadcast of course were an angle and now the question is whether there is another match between the two (Triple H and Lesnar) before the end of the year or does the COO of the WWE have his best friend Shawn Michaels jump in and face the giant by the end of the year (TLC anyone?).

But with all that has taken place in the last 48 hours, and the things that were said, shown and done Monday night, does this mean a few things in terms of the direction the WWE is moving?

Are Antonio Cesaro, Sheamus, Ryback and The Prime Time Players the new breed of this company? And if so, what does this mean for wrestlers like Cody Rhodes and Tyson Kidd? Dolph Ziggler, Damien Sandow and Daniel Bryan also have to figure somewhere in the mix of talent the WWE is showcasing.

For the first time in some time, I think I can safely say there are a few too many superstars who could lay claim to either of the two lead belts in the company.

The days of one championship in three different promotions seems a lot easier right now.

By seeing the likes of Chris Jericho “leave” the company and the status of Triple H’s future in the ring be the lead of the telecast last night, it tells me a few things.

The WWE will look toward younger talent to lead the next few years. It also means feuds like CM Punk and John Cena will still be red hot. But the changes on the horizon will be for the better.

It also means the chances of someone like Kane, Big Show or a Mark Henry holding the World Title or WWE Title again may be a fleeting thing.

And with Randy Orton, Christian and Wade Barrett in the middle of the pack, the WWE is loaded with talent with no place to showcase them.

Barrett will be an instant title contender. Orton, I am not so sure about. Christian, like Kane, is a solid worker who the WWE relies on to make everything seamless.

It just works that way.

If indeed we no longer see Triple H in the ring, another member of the Attitude Era has come and gone. And his impression left on the WWE will now be honored by others.

Triple H was perceived to be a harsher form of Arn Anderson (in my opinion); the enforcer who was better than Anderson and could carry the WWE much like Ric Flair carried the NWA.

Chris Jericho is Roddy Piper with better skills and will be missed, if indeed he is now gone. And the jury is still out if Lesnar is gone from the company or this was a hoax to promote a match at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.

Whatever the situation, speculation, or actual angle taken, the WWE is creating more suspense by doing nothing right now and allowing the situation of Monday night to take care of itself.

It’s the right move whether we like it or not.
