Philadelphia Eagles News: Latest Reports Out of Philly Following Patriots Win

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

I could update you on the Philadelphia Eagles, or we could just talk about the second preseason injury Michael Vick has sustained in as many games.

It turns out, beyond the remarkably fast ascension of rookie quarterback Nick Foles, Vick's rib injury is now the only thing that matters from that game.

So breathe easy, Eagles fans—Vick's injury from Monday night isn't serious. From ESPN:

For his second consecutive game, Philadelphia's star quarterback lasted just six plays then went for X-rays, this time on his ribs. They were negative, just as they were on his left thumb 11 days earlier.

"I'd probably like to see him play a little bit more, but he's got enough experience," Reid said after the Eagles beat the New England Patriots 27-17 on Monday night. "We're not talking about a rookie, so I think he'd be OK."

"

I don't want to see Vick play another snap in preseason. Heck, I don't even want to see him on the sidelines, where a player being pushed out of bounds could ram into him. They should just put him in a bubble until the regular season starts.

On SportsCenter Tuesday morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter said Vick will undergo an additional CAT scan today to double-check for any potential concerns. Jeff McClane of The Philadelphia Inquirer tweeted the same:

There hasn't been more information on the shoulder injury that caused Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to leave the game on Monday night. Hopefully, it isn't too serious—DRC is a big part of this Philly defense.

One of the more entertaining moments from Monday night was the shouting match between head coach Andy Reid and defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins. Not surprisingly, each gave the usual "heat of the moment" spiel afterward (via Sheil Kapadia of PhillyMag.com):

"

“It’s an emotional game,” Reid said afterwards. “He was fired up. I was fired up. Those things happen. Cullen is my primary leader on that defensive line so I count on him for a lot of things. He was upset, and I was upset. We talked about it afterwards, and we’re ok.”

Jenkins addressed the scene as well.

“He comes at you,” said Jenkins of Reid. “He wants to get the best out of you. He wants to make sure you’re focused and the right stuff is going on, that’s all. You have to respect that and you can’t fault that as players. Obviously, that’s not the way I should have handled it, but you just get emotional.”

"

Frankly, I loved seeing that level of fire and emotion from Reid. This is a huge season in Philadelphia, and there is a lot on the line for a lot of people. There's nothing wrong with a head coach singling out the leader on the defensive line and trying to light a fire under his feet. That sent a clear message to the rest of the team.

Great coaching by Reid there.

Finally, how about this little stat (h/t to Jimmy Kempski from Blogging the Beast) to make you scratch your head this morning: Nick Foles leads the NFL in passer rating this preseason.

Nick Foles! I know it's just the preseason, but who saw that coming?
