Atlanta Falcons Undrafted Free Agents Who Can Make the 53-Man Roster
The Atlanta Falcons signed nearly two dozen undrafted free agents following this year's NFL draft.
Unfortunately, not all of them will be able to suit up for the team come September.
Two, maybe three, will be fortunate enough to make the final cut.
What follows are those who look to have the best chance to make the Falcons' 53-man roster.
Dominique Davis
1 of 3Going into this season, the hope for fourth-year pro John Parker Wilson was that he had improved enough to battle Chris Redman for second-string quarterback.
Instead, Wilson may be fighting just to stay on the team.
While he was making errant throws and looking flustered against the Baltimore Ravens last week, undrafted rookie Dominique Davis was showing potential worth developing. Davis threw accurate passes and displayed great athleticism in and out of the pocket throughout the night.
It may only have been one game, but it was enough to see the former ECU star has much more upside than Wilson at this point.
If Davis continues to play like he did in his first-ever NFL contest, the No. 3 quarterback job, and the final roster, is well within reach.
Rico Council
2 of 3Four undrafted free-agent linebackers are currently competing for a spot on the team.
Jerrell Harris of Alabama is getting the most press, but it's Tennessee State's Rico Council who's making the most plays on the field.
Council racked up two solo tackles and one assist in the few snaps he received in last week's game. On the field, he looked able in coverage and made his presence felt blitzing and stopping the run.
Harris, meanwhile, has yet to record a single tackle.
Of course, there's still much football left to play, and Council will still have to prove his worth on special teams before he's ensured a place on the final roster.
Nonetheless, it'll be difficult to keep him off it if he keeps performing as he did against the Ravens.
Aron White and LaMark Brown
3 of 3In the fight for the Falcons' third and final tight end spot, four players are currently in contention.
At the top of the list: former Bengal Chase Coffman, who was just signed this week, and Tommy Gallarda, who was on the team's practice squad last year.
Behind them are two undrafted free agents: Aron White and LaMark Brown.
White showed off his abilities in the passing game after recording two catches for 25 yards in the team's preseason opener. However, he did end up fumbling away his second one.
Brown, meanwhile, was fluid in his route running—as is to be expected from a receiver-turned-tight end— but he didn't pull down either of the two passes thrown to him. He saw his second go through his hands for an interception.
But with none of the four candidates having yet to separate themselves from the pack, White and Brown each have a legitimate shot at the job if they stop making mistakes and start making plays instead.
