PGA Championship Leaderboard 2012: Updates on Golfers Finishing Delayed Round 3
Rain, rain, go away.
On Saturday, play was halted at the PGA Championship due to weather. For some, it was an unwelcome interruption after positive momentum had been built. For others, it was a much-needed break after a poor start to Saturday.
Play resumed for 26 golfers at 7:45 a.m. ET on Sunday morning. Let's take a look at how a few of the biggest names in the sport fared early in their fractured third rounds.
Rory McIlroy
A bit of a delay didn't seem to faze McIlroy, as he shot a third-round 67 to go seven-under for the tournament. He now sits all alone atop the leaderboard. While he couldn't replicate his 32 on the front nine, McIlroy played well enough early on Sunday to build himself a nice lead for the final round.
McIlroy has to be the favorite with a round to go. He'll have a comfortable three-shot lead heading in, and if his play on Saturday and early Sunday is any indication, he's in excellent form to win his second major championship.
The rain may have saved Tiger Woods' tournament.
Woods' tournament was halted on the eighth hole on Saturday, and in all, he bogeyed four of the first eight holes in the third round, leaving him at even par. But he shot two-under the rest of the round on Sunday morning, leaving him an outside shot to catch leader McIlroy.
Woods currently sits at two-under par, though the weekends have been his Kryptonite at major tournaments this year, so it will be interesting to see if Woods can reverse course and make a serious push on Sunday.
Vijay Singh
The rain may have cost Singh the PGA Championship.
Heading into play on Sunday morning, Singh was six-under for the tournament, tied atop the leaderboard with Rory McIlroy. Like Woods, Singh was on the eighth hole when play was halted. Unlike Woods, he was already two-under for the round.
That would all change on Sunday morning.
He would finish the round at 74, a surprising four bogeys and one double-bogey dropping him five strokes behind leader McIlroy. Like Woods, he still has an outside chance to make a comeback, but unlike Woods, his momentum was heading in the wrong direction on Sunday.
Adam Scott
Scott was dominant on the front nine in the third round on Saturday, shooting a four-under and finding himself just one stroke behind McIlroy and Singh when play was halted.
But as was the case for Singh, Sunday morning was not so kind.
Scott bogeyed two holes on the back nine without a single birdie, putting him at three-under and with a shooter's chance behind McIlroy. Before the rain, his chances looked much better.
