Tiger Woods: Updated Odds for PGA Championship Hopes
Tiger Woods was falling apart before mother nature gave him a reprieve.
He had to be thanking his lucky stars that the storm came. He was falling apart through seven holes, as he had already bogeyed three holes. He began the day as the leader and the favorite to win the tournament.
However, after his poor start on Saturday, he is now listed at 12/1 per Bovada. Tiger was plus-three on the day, but still in shouting distance at one-under for the tournament. That is five shots behind the leader.
Others were not as happy to see the storms come in.
Courtesy of Rory McIlroy's amazing front-nine in the third-round of the 2012 PGA Championship, he is now the odds on favorite to win the tour's final major.
It's a tricky situation as play was suspended during the third round, and now McIlroy's rhythm could have been disrupted. Tiger is hoping he can find the rhythm that had us anticipating a victory for him.
McIlroy is a 15/8 favorite following his four-under start that landed him atop the leaderboard. Before folks lose their minds and go nuts for McIlroy, they need to be aware of the fact that Rory has a tendency to fall apart when he's leading.
He did it at the Masters in 2011 and he hasn't played particularly well through much of 2012.
Tiger will need Rory's game to go south if he is to make up the space between them.
Depending on the weather when play resumes, we could see a different Rory. When the weather wasn't ideal on Friday, McIlroy could only muster a 75. Per Weather.com, things should be clear at 89 degrees, but we all know that could change.
Speaking of possible collapses, the Open Championship's most recent example of golf implosion, Adam Scott has surged at Kiawah Island.
He is one stroke off, but he's looking good from an odds standpoint. He's now listed as 10/3 to capture the PGA Championship. He was equally as good as McIlroy before the skies opened up.
His four-under through the front-nine has him in great shape. He'd love nothing better than to quickly exorcise his majors' demons.
We'll have to wait and see who can come through with a clutch performance on Sunday.
