UFC 150: What We Learned from Nik Lentz vs. Eiji Mitsuoka
UFC 150's only Facebook fight of the night did not make it out of the first round, as Nik Lentz dominated Eiji Mitsuoka en route to a referee stoppage due to strikes.
Lentz basically controlled the entire fight. He struck, he clinched and he out-grappled the Japanese import to a point where Mitsuoka could not do anything.
What We'll Remember About This Fight
We will remember the complete and utter domination that Lentz displayed. Mitsuoka is a solid grappler, but Lentz outworked and overwhelmed the Japanese featherweight to a point that anything he did was in vein.
What We Learned About Mitsuoka
The first thing we learned is that Mitsuoka is a part of the continuing trend of Japanese fighters falling in Amercan promotions. Whether it's jet lag or something else, Japanese fighters struggle when fighting on American soil.
Also, we learned that Mitsuoka needs to go back to the drawing board and improve. If he wants to make any type of splash in the UFC, he will need get back to the basics and shake off this unfortunate loss.
What We Learned About Lentz
Nik Lentz is going to be an absolute brute at his new weight class of 145 pounds. Lentz out-muscled and dominated the grappling aspect of the fight.
Lentz was a solid lightweight, but he may be a future contender at featherweight. He has underrated striking and the wrestling chops to compete with many 145-pounders.
What's Next for Mitsuoka
A bout with Daniel Pineda in a loser leaves town match would make for a competitive, important fight for both men.
What's Next for Lentz
Lentz proved that he will be a force at featherweight. Therefore, a showdown with Rani Yahya, another recent winner and top-notch grappler, would be a nice test to see if he can get a crack at a top-10 featherweight.
