UFC 150: What We Learned from Ken Stone vs. Erik Perez
The FX preliminaries continued with a battle between bantamweights who are carrying some momentum. Perez won his UFC debut over John Albert with a first-round armbar, while Stone has back-to-back victories over Dustin Pague and Donny Walker to his credit.
What we'll remember about this fight
That Ken Stone got knocked out in only 17 seconds. It is the fastest knockout in UFC or WEC bantamweight history.
What we learned about Ken Stone
His recovery time is incredible. He got knocked out once with a punch that made him faceplant. Quickly regaining his senses, he was able to roll over onto his back. Unfortunately, he ate some nasty strikes that knocked him out once again.
Shockingly, Stone again recovered quickly, but the fight had already (and rightfully) been stopped by Herb Dean.
What we learned about Erik Perez
He has nasty power in his right hand. The right hand that sent Stone into unconsciousness didn't fully land, but it was enough to send this fight into the danger zone.
Mike Goldberg told us that Perez is the fifth youngest fighter on the UFC roster.
What's next for Ken Stone
Riding the two-fight winning streak coming into this fight will likely save his job. He will likely square off against another UFC newcomer in the event that he doesn't see a pink slip.
What's next for Erik Perez
Perez was carrying some momentum into this fight, and now is a perfect 2-0 inside the Octagon. In a division that lacks major star power, it is important that he continues to slowly work his way into bigger fights. I would hope that he meets Bryan Caraway or someone on a similar rung of the divisional ladder.
