Olympics 2012: 10 Coolest Photos from 13th Day of Summer Games
Day 13 at the 2012 Olympics was full of surprising results, beautiful moments and fabulous photos.
This picture here captures the pure joy of two brothers from Belarus, Aliaksandr and Andrei Bahdanovich, after they worked together to win the silver medal in the men's canoe double 1,000-meter competition.
Rarely do brothers get to work towards such a goal.
Let's take a look at some of the other phenomenal photos from August 9.
Victory Is Sweet
1 of 10U.S. boxer Claressa Shields reacts to being named the gold-medal winner in the women's middleweight division.
She's only 17 years old.
World Peace
2 of 10All the men who competed in the decathlon got together for this awesome photo after the last race.
I appreciate moments like these when everyone can get together and appreciate one another for who they are and for what they've done.
After the Storm
3 of 10Water polo is a brutal sport. The competitors don't hold anything back during competition, and the water is never calm.
This picture of the U.S. women's water polo team with their gold medals after beating Spain in the final game is beautiful to me because the water has completely glassed over and we can so clearly see their reflections. What a contrast.
The Trifecta
4 of 10Usain Bolt didn't disappoint in the men's 200-meter, winning the gold medal once again. He was joined on the podium by teammates Yohan Blake and Warren Weir, who finished second and third, respectively.
Where Eagles Soar
5 of 10This is a really cool photo of American decathlete and gold-medal winner Ashton Eaton as he soars above the bar in the pole vault portion of the decathlon.
Flying Leap of Fury
6 of 10Here we see Turkey's Servet Tazegul flying through the air on his way to scoring a point against Iran's Mohammad Bagheri Motamed in men's Taekwondo—the coolest sport nobody watches in the Olympic Games.
Mind Over Matter
7 of 10This is American sprinter Mateo Mitchell. If it looks like he's in pain, that's because he's running on a broken leg (h/t USA Track and Field).
No lie. He finished his leg of the men's 4x400-meter relay, and the Americans moved on to the final.
First Time for Everything
8 of 10Botswana's Nijel Amos won the first medal in his nation's history in the Olympics. He came in second place behind Kenya's David Lekuta Rudisha, who set a new world record in the men's 800-meter.
Grace Under Pressure
9 of 10China's Chen Roulin is the world's best female platform diver. She won the gold in the women's individual 10-meter platform on Thursday, and she always makes her insanely difficult dives look easy.
Jump for Joy
10 of 10The U.S. women's football team won their second-consecutive Olympic gold medal on Thursday, as they defeated Japan by a score of 2-1 in the gold-medal match.
This picture conveys their elation, as they all lift off together in a group jump for joy.
