PGA Championship 2012 Pairings: A Look Ahead to Must-See Pairings
Tiger Woods could have been paired with me and my next-door neighbor, and the three of us would be must-see TV because Thursday is the first day of the PGA Championship, and it's Tiger's last chance at a major in 2012, this is a big deal.
Replacing me and my neighbor alongside Tiger is Martin Kaymer and Keegan Bradley. I kid about Tiger's group, but they are no slouches.
Kaymer won the PGA championship in 2010, and the 27-year-old German is a solid player. Bradley has also captured the PGA championship, winning the tournament in 2011. Bradley is also coming off a thrilling win at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last week.
If Tiger can finally right the ship in a major, the last three PGA Championship winners will have started in the same group.
Something tells me that was done purposely. This trio teed off at 8:30 AM ET.
Here are two other interesting groups set at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island.
Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jim Furyk at 8:10 AM ET
Teeing off just 20 minutes before Tiger, Bradley and Kaymer is this star-studded group. The struggling but ultra-talented McIlroy looks to regain his unstable game.
After missing the cut at the US Open and tying for 60th place at the The Open, Rory had a strong showing at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last week.
He's looking to keep that going.
Jim Furyk lost a heartbreaker at the same tournament. He finished one stroke behind Bradley after seemingly having control on the final day.
He's had a few near-misses this year.
Johnson had a ninth place finish at the WGC, and though he's capable of a strong showing, he's been up-and-down since his win at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June.
Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson, Ernie Els at 1:20 PM ET
The Open Champion Ernie Els is trying to keep his momentum going. He was steady, poised and clutch in winning the last major, can he have a repeat performance?
He's never won a PGA Championship, but he's finished third on two occasions.
Bubba Watson also captured a major this year when he won the Masters in thrilling fashion. Since then things haven't exactly been perfect, but the big-hitting gambler could dial-up another major-winning performance.
This grouping definitely has a "majors" ring to it.
Simpson won the 2012 US Open, and that makes this grouping contain the winners of all three majors this year. There's no Tiger here, but this group does represent the players that have shined the brightest on the biggest stages.
